How to subdue a naked wrestler

Cops are taught how to calm suspects down through "verbal judo," using their minds and mouths to ease tensions. Well, sometimes that doesn't work, and officers decide to go "hands-on" -- which is what they did in dealing with a self-described state wrestling champion.

San Francisco's finest responded to the Botanical Garden in Golden Gate Park the evening of Aug. 28 to investigate reports of a man running naked. The officers found the 23-year-old streaker on Middle Drive West, nude "except for a pair of black socks," reports Capt. Richard Correia of the Richmond Station.

The officers quickly concluded that the man was under the influence of drugs. They told him to lie on the ground, but "he maintained a combative stance." Finally, he complied and the cops handcuffed him. But as they walked him toward the sidewalk, he began to kick the officers, who along with back-up were able to subdue the suspect and get him to the ground.

He was taken to a hospital, where he told the officers that he had taken LSD. "He also told them that he couldn't believe that the officers were able to 'take him down,' as he had been a state wrestling champion," Correia reports.

2. doj did an assessment a while ago

it's posted at our precinct. naked EDP's (emotionally disturbed persons) are amongst the most dangerous calls cops go to. EDP's that have stripped down are more likely to assault/kill police than most other suspect types.

glad they got the guy in custody w/o injuries.

and glad that tasers are around, even though they didn't need/use one in this instance
