Rightwing soap star says she was fired because she wouldn't play pro-gay storyline
Gee, last I heard actors were supposed to do what they are paid to do: act.

http://advocate.com/News/Daily_News/2009/09/06/Soap_Star__%E2%80%98I_Was_Fired_for_Religious_Beliefs%E2%80%99/

Soap Star: "I Was Fired for Religious Beliefs"

One Life to Live actress Patricia Mauceri says she was axed from the soap earlier this year because her religious beliefs were at odds with a planned gay story line.

The actress tells Fox News it wasn’t the gay plotline she objected to, but rather her character’s handling of the issue. A devout Christian, Mauceri says she objected to the way the writers wanted her character -- a deeply religious, Latina mother -- to react to her son coming out of the closet.

Mauceri says it was those objections that got her fired -- she says her character would not have been accepting.

"I did not object to being in a gay story line,” Mauceri said in a statement. “I objected to speaking the truth of what that person, how that person would live and breathe and act in that story line," she said. "And this goes against everything I am, my belief system, and what I know the character's belief system is aligned to."

4. Yep. She's a Republican alright.
She cannot separate reality from fantasy (acting).

Good luck finding work with the attitude that it's everyone else's fault, honey.

:wtf: is the problem with these people? You refuse to do your fucking job, seems a reasonable thing your employer would refuse to keep you on the payroll.

8. An actess doesn't have a fucking clue what a character might or might not do
only the writer of the character knows that.

These writers knew what would happen. She couldn't accept it, revolted, and rightfully lost her job.

12. In Other News: Fireman Fired For Not Putting Out Fires.
"Well, have you ever had to run into a burning building? It's hot, smokey, and dangerous as all get-out. Scary, too. I can't believe that the Captain expects me to risk life and limb to do the job I was hired and trained to do" says Farley Bunn, a local fire-fighter recently let go because of his refusal to do his job.

"I still want to be a firefighter and hang around the firehouse with the guys, lift weights and cook dinner. and oh, yeah, get a paycheck, but I'll be damned if I go against my personal feelings in this matter. No way should I have to worry about sustaining a personal injury in this most dangerous job that no one forced me into."

19. I saw the scene with his "new mom"
And she handled it like she knew him her whole life. Like a real Mom would handle it. Oh and he didn't come out to his Mom. His mom saw a book about telling your parents about coming out (it was for his friend who was scared to come out to his parents).

21. Poor right winger. They are so victimized.
We should be more sensitive to bigoted assholes. :silly:

Okay, where to start.

1. The writers dictate how the character will develop. I am sure that some actors give input, but it is the discretion of the writers/director/producer to listen or tell the actor to fuck off. If you don't want to do nudity, then they get someone who will. That's show business.

2. Coming from a deeply religious Latino background, and having had family members come out and be accepted, her "expert knowledge" of the way "A deeply religious Latino mother would react" is not only stereotypical and offensive, but inaccurate. FAIL

3. Who gives a fuck? It isn't a free speech issue like all right wingers believe every time they are called on the carpet for espousing their narrow minded opinions. Free speech is only protected from Government interference. How many times do we have to educate stupid conservatives about the first amendment? Private employers are not bound to protect an actor's "sensibilities". Ain't the FREE MARKET wonderful?
