Why isn't there a moderated debate, pro/con on healthcare? Like we do the presidential debates |

1. Who would organize it? |
The media doesn't seem to have much interest in providing this sort of service; they seem in the tank for destroying the public option. And even if one of them did put it on, why would Conservatoids appear? They don't want their transparent lies exposed.

4. If you were a Republican Strategist and someone came in and said |
"Democrats want a debate between one of our people and one of their people" what would you advise Republicans to do? Accept the offer? Or dismiss it as a sideshow? "The Democrats are tired of talking to the American people because they don't like what they are hearing" That sort of thing?

2. because reason would prevail over the hype |
What I suggest is that in every forum you go to, ask the folks to READ the bill. Then discuss it there on its merits. I've done that, and have gotten folks to realize that the bill isn't the bogey man the right says it is. Right now, we're in a discussion on whether health care is a right or privilege.

5. Debates are a joke because most Amerikans are not swayed by fact or reason, but by emotion. |
That is why, e.g., the "death panel" bullshit is still an effective tool in the enemy's arsenal.

7. Because we had a presidential debate. |
Obama won, remember? He ran on the ticket of reforming health care and he fucking WON. That means that a MAJORITY OF AMERICANS WANT NATIONALIZED HEALTH CARE. The idiots who are showing up to the town halls are the losers who are under the false impression that the election is still up in the air.
