IF
Perusing the forums today, I have to wonder what has gotten into people. So many people with pre-emptive angst about what the President will say about health care reform, or what the final bill will look like. So many hypotheticals, so much retching:

"If there isn't a strong public option in the final bill that lands on Obama's desk"

"If there is no robust public option, then count me out!"

"Would it be acceptable to you if Obama just states his support of the Public Option but "
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x8637825

"If 'Public Option' is in the speech tonight, it is in for good."
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x8637459

"If President Obama's policies fail..."
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=8631969&mesg_id=8631969

"If Congress Fails To pass a PO or Medicare for All, Obama needs to declare a State of Emergency"

"If Congress Passes Health Care Legislation without a Public Option… "
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=6481430&mesg_id=6481430

"If the "Democrats" pass a bill forcing you to buy health insurance, will you refuse? "
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=6496946&mesg_id=6496946

"Use your crystal ball: What happens if... "
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=6495854&mesg_id=6495854

"If we can't get a public option, then screw the sick people. They should continue to go bankrupt."
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=6497398&mesg_id=6497398

"If they discuss a trigger, it might as well be for Medicare for All "

Notice something familiar about all those threads?

Here's my response:

Perhaps if you wait to see what the President has to say, you can save yourself all the anxiety and wailing and thrashing about.

We're getting ourselves all worked up over things that haven't happened yet, and in many cases are not likely TO happen.

If "ifs" and "buts" were candy and nuts, we'd all have a happy Christmas!

Or for those a little more crude:

If your aunt had testicles, she'd be your uncle.

Watch the speech. THEN react to it. Your blood pressure will improve.

7. What a shock
you weren't the first to reply and voice your petulant outrage that somebody isn't pissed at Obama today. As predictable as the tides, you become boring.

12. IF we WAIT - it will be TOO LATE.
Obama always has to be dragged kicking and screaming into doing the progressive thing - there is such a thing as momentum in politics and you can't simply "wait" or "trust" in anyone to do the right thing.

This is DEMOCRATIC underground NOT OBAMA underground. We are here to uphold DEMOCRATIC principles, not blindly put our faith in any ONE man.

21. that's it exactly
If we want the public option, we have to be prepared to push for it. Draw that line in the sand and promise hell to pay IF it is crossed. It's a lot harder once they are on our side of the Rubicon.

17. Did I read correctly?
DU commentors are being chastised for worrying about something that many understood was promised them. Something which they were told was vital to the country’s economic stability, not to mention their own physical and financial security. Something which, over time has undergone serial, incremental, downward changes in its perceived value to remedy that difficulty.

Perhaps if President Obama had offered more leadership, and consistency, in how the health care system was to be reformed, we would not now be hearing from six different committees redesigning their version of the horse into a camel — a camel which might wind up by being gene-spliced into a hippogriff.

If so, then perhaps DU discussions could have been less iffy.

"Reading these tweets, it is clear that anything short of a very strong endorsement of a public option will greatly disappoint POTUS's base."
