We know what Stephanopoulos is looking for - who cares - what do you want to see him say? At a minimum?

3. He must say "No public option= No reform, therefore he will veto.
Anything short of that, he fails.

NO PUBLIC OPTION, NO BILL !!

4. I want a Public Option
Ideally, we would have single payer. But, our politicians are too craven to take that stand.

A public option is necessary to establish a benchmark to compare with the products offered by private insurance companies with their bloated executive salaries and other baggage.

I want to hear him say that the emphasis should be on health care, and not on profit obtained at the cost of the consumer's life and well-being.

5. 5 on a scale of 10.
It's just among the items the healthcare menu might have. Whatever.

When we need him to point out in no uncertain terms how much money this would save us over the years, how it's good for small businesses, how it will open up jobs and provide a stimulus.
Telling the simple truth--that's what I would like to hear.

I think he'll skirt it.

10. I think he's really missing a great talking point about small business/start-ups
being squelched under the current system, in which if you are an enterprising person who has a job with health insurance, you are unlikely to leave that job since you likely have a pre-existing condition and would be unable to afford a policy if you started up your own business. That would appeal to many independents and moderate pukes.

6. absolute promise to veto any legislation without a strong PO is my MINIMUM...
...standard for acceptable political representation. And it's bare minimum. What I really want is universal single payer, and I do not promise to support anything less. I will consider supporting legislation with a strong public option that actually covers the majority of Americans who currently cannot obtain insurance and anyone else who wants to opt in at little or no cost to citizens-- in other words, a public option that is a significant step toward single payer and a public option that will strangle the private insurance pigs.

7. Anything short of a very strong statement in support of the public option AS A STEP ON THE PATH

to single payer and he loses what little faith I have that he will ever do the right thing about the major issues facing him, and us.

Unless he eviscerates the insurance corps for their "death panels" and "rationing" and other despicable practices, he will show me that he lacks the courage to really fight for progress.

My expectations are not up to this level, but he damned well better go a lot further than the bipartisan bullshit he has spoke thus far.

9. This is the crossroads of the Obama presidency.
Edited on Wed Sep-09-09 03:57 PM by Sebastian Doyle
Will he take a stand for "Change we can believe in"? Or will he allow another bailout of a criminal industry at the taxpayers expense?

For the record I hope it's the former.
