are going off in Fort Worth. I knew smaller towns used to have them, I was always told it was because they didn't have local TV or radio.

1. Here in Tornado Alley, they're in every town.
Even with TV and radio, you can't assume everyone is aware of what's going on outside. Especially at night, when the sirens most often go off!

2. they have them ALL OVER the suburbs in Chicago.
they test ours every first Tuesday of the month, at 10AM, and I've heard them innumerable times, whenever funnel clouds are spotted, or very high winds reported close by

9. aren't you in Kansas? there's the difference. just wait a few years.
you won't be needing to test, cause tornadoes will be a VERY common occurrence everywhere, as our climate turns into a hell's kitchen of what we formerly used to call 'anomalies'

it's going to be FUN!

11. Whoo Wheee
I love tornado season so this should be fun. Not really. I love the big storms though. I do a lot of worrying about how our area will change.

3. Here in my town
in Kansas we have them all over the place. They make certain that every home can hear them well enough even during a storm. They are so loud out by my farm that the windows in the barn shake. Very important for us to have them.

6. They are everywhere in Oklahoma
Most people don't take their t.v. or radio outside. Plus a siren will wake you if you're sleeping.

7. RG, if you hear them in your area, please take cover.
Don't assume anything. It's much better to be safe from a tornado, than sorry.....

12. We Don't Have Them In Florida
and some people say we need them. Other people say it's a lot of expense and people should get weather radios.

I think if nothing else they should put tornado sirens in mobile home communities.

14. We have them here in my town,
but hardly anyone can hear them. The sirens are a key campaign issue of more than one candidate this year.

few towns, the blast at 0700, noon and 1800 EVERY day but Sunday, and they go to bells instead. I had to wonder if I had crossed intot he Twilight Zone in some of these towns...like the siren goes off, and people are signaled to go to work, lunch and home...:scared:
