Calif. Lawmaker Who Bragged About Affairs Resigns
SACRAMENTO (CBS13/AP) ― Mike Duvall, the Republican state lawmaker from Southern California who was ousted Wednesday from two legislative committees after he was caught on tape bragging about having sex with female lobbyists, has resigned, according to his campaign website.
Duvall, of Yorba Linda, made the comments to another man during a break in a committee meeting at the Capitol over the summer, and they were caught on a microphone at his desk.
In a recording of the hearing, the 54-year-old lawmaker talks about a recent sexual escapade with a woman he says is 18 years younger than him.
Duvall posted this statement Wednesday on his campaign web site: "I am deeply saddened that my inappropriate comments have become a major distraction for my colleagues in the Assembly, who are working hard on the very serious problems facing our state. I have come to the conclusion that it would not be fair to my family, my constituents or to my friends on both sides of the aisle to remain in office. Therefore, I have decided to resign my office, effective immediately, so that the Assembly can get back to work."
