There Is Not One Single Redeeming Quality to the Republican Political Party.
I am nearly 60 years old. I have lived long enough, seen enough in my lifetime to be qualified to make this sweeping statement:

There's not a spoonful of spit's worth of good within the Republican Party here in the United States.

It is a party that is ALWAY in opposition to what is good for the American People.

The British member of Parliament who declared that "there is no tribe on the face of the earth more loathsome than the Republican Party in the United States" was speaking as a foreigner looking into our nation. He spoke the truth that the entire world now knows.

The Republican Party is Anti-American.

War? They are for it. Peace? They are against it.
The environment? They hate it. Pollution? They love it.
People of color? They hate them. White folks: They love them.
Science? They hate it. Religious fanaticism? They love it.
Good wages for our citizens? They fight against it. Crooked corporations? They protect them.
Health-care for our people? They take their guns to rally against it!
Social Security for the old? They still hate it and want to turn it over to Wall Street.
Medicare? They hate it, want to kill it, and let it "wither on the vine" until it's gone.
Education? They de-fund it every chance they can.
Truth? They hate it. Lying propaganda? They indulge in it.

Who are these fucking people?

Mitch McConnell, David Duke, Larry Craig, George W. Bush, Jeb Bush, John Boener, Governor Sanford, Mark Foley, Henry Hyde, Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin, John McCain, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, John Cornyn, Lamar Alexander, Sam Brownback, Saxby Chambliss, Tom Coburn, Bob Corker, John Ensign, Rick Perry, Chuck Grassley, Orin Hatch, James Inhofe, Johnny Isakson, Jon Kyle, Pat Roberts, Jeff Sessions...just a few of the tribe.

Even Arlen Specter had the good sense to walk away from that stench.

Do something for America, if you love it: Tell your friends the truth about this "loathsome" anti-American political party.

3. As I realized long ago,
the Republicans are not actually a political party, but rather a crime syndicate masquerading as one.

We really do not have a 'two party' system in this country.

25. Their entire electoral strategy is based on lies
Specifically, fooling stupid and/or uninformed people into voting against their own interests.

Fortunately for them we have a "news media" in this country dedicated to keeping people as stupid and uninformed as possible.

5. Agreed.
I've spent years trying to understand the very few people I know who are Republicans and I actually like. There has to be some kind of cognitive dissonance they've been able to effectively squelch and I just don't get it.

All the other Republicans I know are generally selfish, arrogant, snobbish, xenophobic, and thoroughly unlikable.

29. It is completely surreal ...
Frankly, I have as many good friends who are hard core Rs as I have good friends who are Ds. Most of the Rs I know are fantastic and decent people. And, at the heart really, really good people - hard working, caring of others, polite ...

But, as noted, there is a complete disconnect politically.

I befriended the director of our local chamber of commerce. A really nice guy, ex-marine, pilot. I asked him to help out by being on the executive committee for a family resource center I was starting off of a grant in our little town and he jumped right in. He owns rental properties and works a lot with low income housing, and goes out of his way to help people in tough situations. The chamber building is in a local park, and there are a lot of adolescent who "hang out" down there who are on the fringe of drug abuse, most from bad family situations - he has worked to try to do what he can to help those kids out ...

Just a really good guy ...

Anyway, I made a point of stopping in to talk to him at work a couple times, and he knows my politics. We woudl get into deep discussions, and it was like he was taken over by a demon ... The further we went into the discussion, the more angry and irrational he would get - he would go nearly unhinged with the whole BO is a socialist thing ... It was a totaly different exprerience in talking to him, and I always was very kind and patient, and when we ended the discussions, it was always with a good handshake, him almost in a sweat thanking me for talking with him ...

I have had MANY experiences like this with people like him, on a lesser level.

As noted, I don't get it ... I just do not get it ...

It is TOUGH having my politics, knowing such great people, and having to REALLY bite my lip and be patient and walk though it with them ...

31. I have no Republican friends, but a few in my family who rarely speak to me.
After a life-time of leftist activism, there are no Republicans who would be called friends in my life.

But for the life of me, I simply can not get my mind around the degree of how vile this party is.

They, as usual took the easy way out - 'let me rip your ideas and ideas of a plan apart and i'm safe because i'm too chicken to propose ideas' BS for what (?) 3 months now over health care since it's be tabled.

Little bullies, little kids, afraid to have their ideas criticized.

I was wrong, AspenRose, it was Simon Hoggart who coined that phrase. It's still spot on the mark, though.

Our fellow DU'er, Jackeens, posted the story here and that's where I'd first seen the loathsome tribe comment. It so fits.

radicals and extremists. You have rush, cheney, beck, boehner, mitchell, and all of fox news blabbing outright lies daily not as being an opposition voice, but being firmly committed to pushing propaganda.

33. David, you have nailed them!
Why do so many people continue to support the Republican Party??

The things they say they stand "for" even does great harm to our country. They say they are for lower taxes so they cut the taxes on the rich and create massive deficits that does harm to all of us.

They say they are for a strong defense but then they invade other countries, break international laws, and bog our country down in illegal and unnecessary wars. In the process, they weaken our military.

They say they are for "family values" but they throw the Constitution out the window so they can say prayer in schools and make women third-class citizens.

Everything else, they are against. They are a dangerous, radical bunch that will continue to do great harm to our country in the near future. They are a deceitful bunch of Republican leaders that take advantage of the weak-minded...

I am about 15 years younger than you but I remember how people thought Barry Goldwater was a frigging nut. Now I can only remember the back end of his Senate career and then his relatively normal viewpoints late in his life so maybe he was out there in the 64 election. The majority of folks you listed make Barry look like a moderate, who knows maybe he would have taken a right turn with nut cases.
