To shit on the parade. But it ain't working this time. The speech was great and if your idealism gets in the way of that, you deserve to be crying right now. Go tell mommy how sad you are.

2. Did you hear KO's biography on
the GOPig who delivered the GOPig response to the President's address?

It was hilarious.........................

7. Well worth it -
I'll give you what I can recall -

the guy's a cardiac surgeon and has been sued for malpractice three times;

he's a birther;

he once got caught in a scam where he was trying to buy a British title of "Lord."

In short, the GOPig's finest..............................

4. The speech wasn't great.
It was okay. To this lifelong Democrat, it sounds like he just wants to get something passed, anything, and if it marginally saves the middle class some money, he's good with it.

6. Well I thought it to be passionate and articulate and thoughtful.
I realize it will resonate differently across the populace. But I know that many people will be thrilled with the tone. I'm pretty delighted at the moment.

10. It wasn't great -
but he had a very specific task to complete.

I'm not sure he did, but he certainly took the battle back from the GOPigs.

The Democrats NOW have to get it together, hold on to the lead they have, and batter the shit out of the GOPigs.

I don't know how old you are, but I think younger people might find it a great speech, simply because they don't remember some of the earlier, truly great speeches that have been delivered by Presidents............................

11. I fell in love with the President when he gave the keynote at Kerry's nominating convention.
the first glow of love is over now, especially after the bloody 2 year long primary that ended 10 months ago. He still has the same eloquent delivery. The content of what he said tonight, however, struck me as cynical and ugly. It didn't sound in line with the Democratic Party platform as I understand it.

12. I know -
you were enamored of the theoretical beauty of campaign speeches, acceptance speeches, inaugural addresses.

What you saw and heard tonight is a politician who has just learned the sordid details of how business is conducted in Washington.

Personally, I'm relieved. His learning curve is continuous and intact, and we won't see, I hope, any more of the Passive Obama, who keeps believing in "bipartisanship." There is no such thing in Washington, not today, and the sooner he internalizes that fact and puts it into practice, the better off we'll all be............................

13. I just wanted to have a President who
I had no doubt about him being on my side, and not the ugly lizard people who own all the corporations. I'm going back to voting my conscience from now on, these last 3 presidential elections have just crushed everything out of me.

15. Don't give up so quickly -
Obama is doing what he has to do to get a bill passed, to get some help for as many Americans as he can get.

And that's called "compromise."

I recommend to you the professional life of Ted Kennedy as an exercise in compromise.

It's how politics works. If you thought otherwise, you were mistaken.

Politics is often referred to as "the art of the possible."

Be practical, and see what happens before you quit. The real world of politics is quite different from a campaign platform. You know that..................................

16. No I know that.
It's just that this isn't any sort of meaningful reform at all. Especially a personal mandate. I cannot believe that. I'm just going to vote my conscience from now on, I do not believe that the Democratic Party adequately represents my interests.

but it is probably the last 8 years of listening to inarticulate hogwash that made me view the speech as good. Or it could be that I've never been an over-the-top Obama fan, so my expectations have been exceeded (and not for the first time).

I do think he delivered the speech on a level that was understandable to even the dimmest of republicans, which is what really hit it out of the park for me.

edit: typo

14. They are still whining about wanting their pony RIGHT NOW!!!
The Blue Cross Dogs are getting in the way and if Obama criticizes them them we risk them killing any reform.

If you want Single Payer then get off your asses and work on primarying the Blue Dogs. It's CONGRESS that makes the laws, not Obama.
