5. (1) Only 5% who can't get ins. will be available to buy from a 'public option' |
|
(2) Public Option must support itself with premiums from the 5% (3) Repubs and healthcare ins. companies will continue to run healthcare (4) No attempt to replicate greatest, most inexpensive systems on earth i.e., Japan, France, Taiwan, Sweden, etc. U.S. ranking of 37th in world's healthcare is just fine. Oh yeah, Obama supports Repubs ideas of making sure Doctors, hospitals aren't sued when malpractice is committed.

4. Obama spent a relatively long time speaking about the benefits of a public option... |
|
...but then undermined it by saying that a co-op or a trigger might be OK.

8. The speach was excellent. |

Obama really hit this one out of the park.
In a nutshell this is what he spoke off. Those who have private insurance can keep it, but there will reforms regarding pre-existing conditions and related issues.
Those who do not have it, must buy it. He compared it to having auto insurance which a requirement in every state to drive/register a car. One would not be allowed to roll the dice by going with out health insurance.
To create competition, he proposes the creation of a health insurance exchange where small businesses or individuals can "shop" for insurance in a competitive environment.
Lastly, in order to foster competition the creation of a PUBLIC NOT-FOR-PROFIT PUBLIC OPTION which would be accessible to all who seek insurance on the exchange. The public option, however must be self-sufficient and self sustaining. You will pay for it just like private insurance. He emphasized that the public option cannot increase the deficit.
He commented more on various cost-cutting measures and waste elimination.
I would highly reccomend that you catch the speach via download if you can.

Sorry, that's a pop fly bunt into the pitcher's glove. If that's your idea of a home run then I've got some land in Florida...

10. Something to that effect, yes. |
|
I can see his point. He made a specific reference to healthy young people, who may think they don't need health insurance and thus go without it. This was the part of his speech that advocated self-responsibility. If it can be afforded it should be bought.
Watch the speech and decide for yourself, but that is what I took from it.
