Will my doctor accept my "Obama gives a great speech card" as payment?
Edited on Wed Sep-09-09 08:44 PM by mymessageboardid
Seriously people. I know many of you think I am a troll. I'm not. I worked hard for Obama all over Northern Virginia during the campaign. How is a FOUR year "trigger" watered down "insurance exchange" real change? Sounds like four more years of delay while EVERYONE in this country is mandated to buy insurance. This is fucking crazy. FOUR YEARS? Don't fool yourself. Even this watered down BS want come to fruition then. SCOTUS is literally putting elections up for sale with their upcoming ruling, not that it isn't already.

Do you want to know how quickly I knew we had been had? It was only two days after the election. Axelrod was immediately putting out the word that the Bush tax cuts wouldn't be rolled back like was said during the campaign. We would have to wait two years for them to expire. I'm sure they'll come up with some excuse to put that off again. You know, can't raise that top tax bracket by a whopping 3% in a recession because all of the rich people wouldn't "create" jobs. :sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm:

Don't even get me started on other promises...Don't Ask, Don't Tell is just one.

1. Umm.....if you don't want to be thought of as a "troll", then
maybe you shouldn't make such a huge (or should I say "hugh") error as "except" when you mean ACCEPT. Sorry, but that's a dead giveaway.

Wowsers, look at the apologists on here. Spelling police instead of POLICY police. Yes, when I'm fuming I often make grammatical errors.

9. this kind of thing is bigger than individual problems.
Self employed, I have insurance with a very high deductible which only covers disasters. I'm not covered for mental health (the one thing that is wrong with me)

this is a large country - it has over 300 million people. I don't expect public bills to solve my personal problems overnight. Or the president to only be focused on what I want.

It's ridiculous what some people post here.

Edited on Wed Sep-09-09 08:49 PM by Avalux
Did you work for Obama's campaign because he promised to tax the rich? I hope not, because he never promised those things. Obama has always been pragmatic, from the beginning of his campaign up until now.

Any talk of being 'had' is ridiculous.

11. We need a trigger bigger than 43 million without insurance?

I took a lot and argued a lot, and I feel like I fought harder than you did. I won't vote for republican principles, but I won't be there next time.

I voted for single payer. Period. Fool me once, ok, but you don't get another chance.

Goodbye Obama.

26. Sorry, my wording

Sorry, I worded that wrong.

I really hoped he would stand up and say we need to cover everyone, that we need a health care card (like single-payer), that the insurance companies have proved themselves irrelevant to the solution, and we would really get a revolution in how things are done.
Instead I think we got someone who wants to compromise too much, too early. He could have marched us to the moon. It's been done ;)

And why not have the exchange NOW? Why wait 4 years. Are we going to hear "Well, I told you we would get here, and if you just vote for me again we will have it?

we will see...

20. Who promised me he wouldn't enact the individual mandate?

It was President Obama. Many of us are quite angry that when he changed his mind on this subject, Obama went to the right (the mandate) and not to the left (single payer).

19. The insurance exchange is not "triggered" and it opens in 2013 - in the HOUSE bill
Obama didn't announce anything new. The HOUSE bill called for an insurance exchange opening in 2013. It isn't "triggered" - it just starts up later. (By contrast, a trigger would mean it may never get set up.)

28. So you expected Obama to just pull out his magic wand and fix it all right after the election
Only a fool would believe that. I never elected Obama for what he would do the first 100 days in office, the first 6 months in office or even the first 1-2 years in office. I elected him because I thought he would be the one that could take us into the right direction but this would not be solved overnight. Our country did not get into this mess overnight and it wasn't just the Bush admin that messed it up (although it made it extremely worse than before). I voted for Barack because i thought for the next 4 years he could take our country into the right direction but that it would be a hard fight, some compromised made but rewarding in the end.

It's annoying as hell.

31. Not expecting Obama to fix - Expect him to lead

I voted for him to lead. To inspire. To be the first people to walk on the moon of health care, as it were. To ask for greater things than leaving all this in the hands of the owners of insurance companies who have been sucking up millions and millions of dollars for their own use that would otherwise pay for health care, and enabling them to suck off more. And they will. I don't expect Obama to fix anything - he rides around in a limo with his feet up - difficult to bend over a desk and get to work like that. All the rest of us will do the fixing. Preaching the ideas of the middle of the pack seemingly offers him better protection, but it's not leadership.

There is a better idea. It is called health care for everyone, paid for with taxes.

I also wonder if we are going to get so caught up in this that we forget our economy is changing, and all this is going to pale by comparison. but that's another thread.

33. Well if I were rich I would create jobs.
And did.

I was able to because I didn't have to pay any cap gains tax.

You see there was a tax loophole, as long as rolled over the money into a startup company I didn't have to pay taxes on a quite large sale of stock, from my previous company which I sold.

So that money went into a new company, providing 40 jobs.

Giving tax breaks to the rich isn't always a bad thing. Though I'm not considered in the "rich" these days, especially after several years of taking my pay to minimum wage to try to keep employees in a bad economy.
