Not sure the reply actually works when they do these mass emails.

You gave away the store. We elected you to get health care for all - universal health care and the second option could have been the public option but you gave that away to. These right wing nuts are disrespectful and the more you bend to them the more they make fun of you and us. Sorry to see you go this way.

I know we would be worse off under republican rule
I had HOPE we would at least be better off under democratic rule - you sold the farm - enjoy your four years in the people's house. By the time you get health care, I will be on medicare but in the meantime, I have nothing.

12. Maybe if he'd stop dumping troops in Afghanistan we'd have the goddamn money.
Somehow Cuba and Venezuela manage, but the good ol' US of A can't afford to give its citizens healthcare. Oh, and before you say it: Cuba is ranked 22nd in the world and we're ranked 21st. A whole lot of shit the "health insurance" scam brings Americans.

You're just an apologist. You'll be making apologies for Obama long after the 2012 election, even if he wins a second term. "Poor baby's son died in Afghanistan, what can Obama do? He's only been in office 7 years 6 months...."

Sickening.

14. the amount of money we have wasted on these wars so these
corporations could make money is incredible - the only industry that has grown is military and these mercenaries are raking the cash in at the expense of the rest of us. If they don't give us health care - they need to give up their taxpayer public health care. I don't want to pay for theirs while I have none.

15. Yet, we can afford to escalate in Afghanistan
Why is it that the two wars that drag on don't have to be "deficit neutral" but health care does?

Do you suppose it all depends on what works best for the corporations who are making money off them?

22. That whole "paygo" bill the house passed was a sham.
It only applied to "entitlements." You see, we can't have taxpayer money going back to the actual people that paid it in. That would be just wrong. Taxpayer money goes into a huge pot that is then distributed among the rich and powerful. That's the way the system works. The MIC is at the front of the line when it comes to dipping into that pot. Of course, Wall Street was getting pissed that they weren't getting their "fair share" so they got handed a boatload of money to kind of even things up. The bigwigs of the health insurance companies saw that and said "Hey, it's our turn now." And of course, they got moved to the front of the line for the next big handout. And on it goes.

4. The reply doesn't work
For mass emails like that, sent by an external company, replies are logged, but go to a dead mailbox.

I disagree with your completely negative review of the speech.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/09/09/obama-health-care-speech_n_281265.html

It wasn't perfect, I would have preferred a stronger lean towards single payer, or at the least a robust public option, but overall, I think it's probably in the right area.

Like it or not, he has to work with the "big tent". There are a lot of DINOs. No way around that. There's too many off them to allow a truly Progressive solution through. Yet.

IMO

23. Cranky
I was naive enough to think we'd get some real change if the Democrats got control of Congress and the Executive branch - especially when it came to health insurance. You'd think as long as I've been active I would have known better. I've never been one issue, but this just might be the last straw for me.

How are you?

25. this is personal for me - I have not had health care since 1997 and
buying it was not an option, knowing they would drop me if I got sick because then I would have no income to pay.

17. thanks for the link - he did promise way more than he is willing to
deliver or fight for - he needed to stick to the high ground and stop this compromise

“I happen to be a proponent of a single payer universal health care program. I see no reason why the United States of America, the wealthiest country in the history of the world, spending 14 percent of its Gross National Product on health care cannot provide basic health insurance to everybody. And that’s what Jim is talking about when he says everybody in, nobody out. A single payer health care plan, a universal health care plan. And that’s what I’d like to see. But as all of you know, we may not get there immediately. Because first we have to take back the White House, we have to take back the Senate, and we have to take back the House.”

Editor's note: The original Naked Emperor News piece that includes an edited version of this clip can be found in the related links section below along with the YouTube video posted by the White House in response.

24. I just did the exact damned thing and wrote to my Congressman
who I know personally to let him know that I was very troubled by what I heard and asked him to talk me and other liberal Democrats down off the ledge.

I'm gonna ring some bells tomorrow here in Florida with the elected Dems I know and let them know just how awful this speech was.
