2. It just may be that

Obama, who seems to be by nature a guy who would rather seek consensus, has really figured out that no what he says or does the Republicans will not cooperate with him, and in fact will do whatever they can to take him down. He might have had trouble comprehending the depth of their assholery because he isn't like that. But the last month or so has probably focused his mind on the fact that the Republicans are hopeless, inveterate assholes and that every single time he tries to extend a hand across the aisle he'll pull back a bloody stump. So maybe he's finally decided, fuck you crazy bastards; enough is enough. We'll do it without you.
