Help for Obama's Speech to Congress
The Speech the President Should Give to Congress, September 9, 2009

by Ray McGovern

Good evening, both to you members of Congress assembled here, and fellow Americans in our wider TV and radio audience.

I plan to talk first about health care reform. Then I will make some fresh proposals regarding how to pay for it, since this is a legitimate concern.

A new strategy will kill two birds with one stone. That strategy finds the money for health care reform by curbing wasteful, self-defeating spending on the military — spending that is making us less, not more, safe. Stay tuned.

First, health care:

Last year I promised to do all I could to ensure that all of you — that is, every single American — would be able to get affordable health care. I said elect me President and then hold me accountable.

You did your part. This evening I will give you a preliminary accounting.

But, first a question. How many of you members of Congress do not have affordable health care?

I’m serious. And the nation is curious.

Okay, let’s do it this way. Any Senator or Representative who does not have affordable health care, please rise.

No one is standing up.

Now a more important question: How many of you Senators and Representatives will stand up for legislation that will give ALL Americans essentially the same access to health care that you enjoy?

6. The Culture of Rationed Death.
Do you deserve to die?
Do your friends and family?

The Culture of Rationed Death

This is what's called a crisis in values.

The culture of rationed death prevails over the fundamental decency and humanity of caring for the sick.

Those aligned against universal health care consciously choose to impose their culture of death on the entirety of the population.

Who speaks for those of us who will end up without health care?

Which major figures on either side of the debate address universal health care as a life or death issue?

Who among the advocates of rationing are without health insurance?

Who among them are unable to afford or obtain their own critical care or the same for their loved ones?

Who among them will step forward and tell those denied medical care:

"You deserve to die."

I think if we are going to leave so many without care the fair thing would be a national lottery.

Level playing field and luck in control of the outcome. Much like a draft, those who get picked for no health care can sacrifice their lives for the country. That way the uninsured would be equally distributed throughout the classes. Also anyone who currently has no care is exempt, they paid their dues to society.

4. I thought so too, Obama was pointed in drawing out the mentally unstable RW and they took the bait
hook line & sinker; now the whole world sees who is here to bite, tear & claw their way to the bottom. My hope is that news outlets (fox don't count) are also able to see their contributions in pumping this rancorous disrespect for America onto our screens and into our homes for the jaded pursuit of Ad dollars

7. But difficult
to be a pandering politicians who equivocates at every turn?

So your sympathies lie with those who resort to weasel words that then devolve into policies that benefit big business and cause folks to suffer? I'm shocked I tell ya'.

5. Breath of fresh air...
Since he quoted the gospel, how about the one "Whatsoever you do unto the least of my brethren you do unto me?" Don't here that too much... One woman I asked if she knew that at least 50 die every day directly due to lack of health care...she said "Its not me"... what have we become? K&R

9. This is exactly right. I have been thinking this all day.
Why the hell are they more deserving of access to health care than anyone else? The arrogance.

They are all basically wealthy people, in the top 1% of the population socioeconomically. They could afford their own coverage without hitting up the treasury.
