What are you doing on September 11th?
I feel like I should do something special, but I don't know what. I'm working part of that day, but I want to take part in something related to the anniversary. Anybody know of anything going on that day?

1. I'm going to live my life
free of terror and piss off the right wing that wants me hiding in a bomb shelter with my family and voting for kooks like Bush and Palin.

12. Yeah. I think I'll go to a bookstore and put Ann Coulter books in the "Horse" section.
That's how I'm gonna commemorate the day. Now I feel better.

6. It's a Friday
My friend comes into town. I will go out and have a drink.

I will try to live my life. And I will be glad that 8 years later, at least now we have competent leadership guiding our country that would not ignore warnings of imminent terrorist attacks.

8. Nothing special. As horrible as 9/11 was, no tectonic plates moved on that day . . .
It was not a moment "after which nothing was every quite the same," and does not warrant anything more than a bit of reflection on the victims (living and dead) of one of the world's greatest mass murders.

What happened after -- the saving of GW Bush's presidency and America's descent into war criminal status -- now that's world-historical.

10. "Anniversary"?
September 10 is my sister and her husband's anniversary. It commemorates a day of great joy.

9/11 is just a black cloud of memory and lung-choking dust. And I don't need a "special" event to remember. Sorry. 9/11 as a holiday makes me ill.

Edited on Wed Sep-09-09 11:42 PM by LatteLibertine
IMO making a big deal out of it every year is allowing the terrorists too much power. Also it plays into the hands of the Rethuglicans. I'm not saying we should forget and I don't think we need annual events either.

41. Fly fishing....
8 years ago I was working in Hawaii. After being awakened very early to the tragedy, having to do some quick emergency work and then tiring of watching the twin towers falling down continuously, my friends all decided to go snorkeling. We figured that if we were all going to die we'd rather do it looking at something beautiful.

So now if I'm not working I usually do something that includes beauty and serenity on 9/11. Nowadays that would be fly fishing. It's just me, the river and trying to outsmart the fish. If I do everything right not even the fish die.

48. Remembering the day because I was with a friend from work and her sister was at the Pentagon.
Edited on Thu Sep-10-09 12:39 AM by Jennicut
My friend was frantic and could not get any info on her sister. Turns out she was in the area right where the plane crashed into the building and ended up in a coma. She did come out of it. I just remember hugging my friend as she cried. It was a tough, tough day. And it still pisses me off the way Rethugs used people like my friend and her sister to build up fear and intolerance in this country and war in another country. So I will be remembering Joceyln and her sis.

The irony of this does not escape me and I'm fully expecting the neocons presenting the other side to invoke 9/11 and I'm totally prepared for it.

I told the receptionist to clear the whole afternoon for me. Several cavities, and one abscess.

Other than that, I will think about the good people that died that day. And, I will also think about all the good people who have died since, because the Cheney White House wanted to make a lot of money.
