The more complicated a market based solution is the more it can be gamed.

The problem with health care "reform" as we're looking at it now is it doesn't address the fundamental problem which is GREEDY PROFITS and CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR!

Our health care system is more concerned with the bottom line than it is with providing health care to sick people. It's NOT a health care system it's an extortion system.

Some of the problems addressed last night should be dealt with in other ways. Pre-existing illness games should be outlawed. These are all contact law games and they're the same as the sub-prime mortgage game and the credit card game etc. This is crime not anything else and it should stand alone. We need white collar crime bills and contact law reform.

The insurance companies are dead weight. They provide nothing but a way to skim profits while adding NOTHING.

Providing subsidies to poor people to pay insurance companies is a huge mistake. It will only run up the debt and probably not help since the insurers will just find new ways to game the system.

Letting insurers get too big to fail is a terrible idea.

This country's problems in mortgages, jobs, CC debt and healthcare are all caused by the same diease.

It's the market based economy stoopid.

I'm still sticking by my prediction. This is a huge transfer of wealth to the health insurance industry. They are the problem not the solution.

At this point I'd rather kill the bill and let the insurers rape the people who are happy with their private plans. I'd also like to raise the medicare premiums and have robust investigations on Medicare fraud.

We also need Blue Cross investigations in all fifty states. There's massive fraud and abuse in the non-profit sector and the Insurance Commissioners need to do their jobs or resign.

There are things we can do while waiting but I just can't support this bill without an escape hatch/pubic option it's too complication and Wall Street is going to have a field day with it.

If there were more things to address the fundamental problems I might change my mind. A tax hike on the wealthy of at least 10% might get me in. At least then we can get some of the money back that they're going to STEAL!

4. Which is exactly the point, it seems. The complexity is intentional...

... for exactly the reasons you describe: It makes it makes it easier to hide the stealing.

It worked for Wall Street (well, until it didn't, it worked for Enron (well, ditto that). It's working for Medicare Part D (so far).

So why shouldn't we give it a whirl where the well-being of American citizens is concerned?

6. I have some hope that the progressive caucus will kill a bad bill.
My god, even as I type that it sounds naive.

7. If there's no Public Option,
there's no Reform, IMHO.

So what if the Insurance Cos. can't deny a pre-exiting condition....they'll just charge HUGE premiums, right?

You're right...it's just a way to pass little pieces of green paper to those who have lots of those little pieces of green paper.

8. Progressives must continue to push for Single Payer! Do not back down. It may not happen
soon, but if we ignore the RW loons, we can sell it to reasonable Americans. Details found elsewhere on DU, YouTube, etc.
