Coach Condemns Obama School Speech for Lack of Football Analogies & Vince Lombardi Quotes
...{Coach} Bryant did acknowledge he appreciated President Obama’s reference to coaches as mentors, but seemed confused why he wouldn’t have specified “football coaches.” ... “how you can give an inspirational speech without quoting Vince Lombardi?”

3. and keep out of that darn history class!

When I moved back to Europe as a teen, I couldn't believe that my left behind friends were being thaught history by a football coatch. Always seemed wrong to me, and to this day, whenever I encounter this astonishing historic amnesia in America I go like .. "oh well, that's what you get when coaches teach history." Honestly, I think it would be healthier the other way around. History teachers should coach football.

Strange country this is.

6. Well there is a silver lining.
There is something wonderful about being able to listen to a speech without cringing because some piece of shit like Bush is making numerous sports banalogies.

9. Up here in Wisconsin, that's a legitimate complaint...
People use Vince Lombardi quotes when writing their own wedding vows...

17. Don't blame DU
The Republican success at self-satire has become so great that nobody can tell the difference anymore.

21. Good for you...
But think of the number of times you've reacted with the phrase, "Oh, you've GOT to be kidding" when confronted with some over-the-top Republican lie or instance of craven hypocrisy. Think of the jaw-dropping whipsaws in moral outrage from Clinton (OUTRAGE) to Bush (Meh) to Obama (OUTRAGE) on the same topic.

Then there's the guy at the town hall meeting who demands that the government "keep its hands off my Medicare."

In all seriousness, how are we supposed to readily spot somebody doing a parody of Republican hypocrisy and the real thing is so outlandish?

23. So do I, but Onion NOT
Is from (as noted in the original link) "Texas Cockroach"

Which is to the right of the Onion, but not so far right as to not understand and appreciate satire.

24. Sadly, it almost defies satire.
And you don't "get" that my post was satiric, so don't be lecturing.
