Update at 12:04 p.m. ET: In his first public comment on the incident, Wilson tells reporters that the Republican House leadership had contacted him last night and "wanted me to contact the White House and state that my statements were inappropriate."

"I did," Wilson says. "I'm very grateful that the the White House, in talking with me, they indicated that they appreciated the call and that we needed to have a civil discussion about the health care issue, and I certainly agree with that."

He says his outburst during the president speech was "spontaneous."

Wilson also indicates that he stands by his belief that at least some of the bills working their way through Congress would not prevent "illegal aliens" from taking advantage of the health care system.
