HEALTHCARE NOT WEALTHCARE!
What the President outlined last night was wealth care.

2. I unreccomended this thread for its lack of detail.
I really hope for more insight on this board than just bumper sticker slogans.

Sorry, but I didn't want to be one of those anonymous unrecing people.

3. I unrec'd because it feels like just more Hyperbole and Exaggeration
Just because of my experiences and the experiences of friends and family, it is difficult to consider a system that

-- provides affordable basic coverage to the uninsured
-- makes it ILLEGAL to deny somebody who has a pre-existing condition and ILLEGAL to drop the coverage of somebody who is sick

as a horrible thing that the term "Wealthcare" implies.

4. Extorting money from hard working Americans
to prop up corporate profits is wealthcare. Plus if you don't like it, why was it voted the top new slogan for DU?

7. Me? DU is doing so well with it.
I'm just pointing out that before last night's speech, everyone around here was behind it. Now, not so much.

8. Well that sort of makes sense that it would be more popular before the speech
Because I know a lot of people were very concerned that Obama was no going to mention or was going to kill the public option.

I may be oversensitive to Hyperbole today because I am bouncing back and forth between DU and another site where I am in a "discussion" with some hardcore wingnuts who saw the speech as an evil LIE-FILLED imposition of Socialism.

6. "provides affordable basic coverage to the uninsured"
How do you figure that?

If I could afford health insurance...I'd already HAVE it.

Someone telling me I have to buy it doesn't help me at all.... and then to penalize me for not being able to afford it? That sure as hell isn't "HEALTHCARE"...sounds exactly like wealthcare to me.

I'd rather my taxes go to health than to war & weapons.Where's my choice there??

"Now, for those individuals and small businesses who still can't afford the lower-priced insurance available in the exchange, we'll provide tax credits, the size of which will be based on your need."

Tax credit? Big deal...I still have to lay out the cash for some crappy insurance I don't want, right?

"There will be a hardship waiver for those individuals who still can't afford coverage, and 95 percent of all small businesses, because of their size and narrow profit margin, would be exempt from these requirements."

So if 95% will be exempt...doesn't that tell you this may not be the best way to go about this?

This plan is bound to fail. It is swiss cheese and biased to the rich.

Maybe changing a few things might seem like progress, but when something is SO broken...it still won't work anyway.
