Wilson did more to undermine the GOP's efforts to come across as reasonable opposition
as anything any conservative cable host has done in the past few months. Remember how conservatives were able to turn Cindy Sheehan into someone very difficult for the anti-war Democrats in Congress to support during the Bush years? Well, Wilson could end up providing that kind of symbolism. In short, he gave voice -- literally -- to the president's attempts to paint some of his opponents as shrill."

1. That is true
If it was a strategy, he vastly overreached. If it was just an uncontrolled outburst, well, he's screwed. He's the face of the GOP today.

3. When did the gop make any effort to come across as reasonable opposition?
Did something happen that I missed?

Or is screaming "socialized medicine" at every opportunity now deemed reasonable?

4. If there were still Republican moderates in Congress, you'd have a point
I really don't think they care about looking reasonable anymore, they just care about being perceived as opposition.

Frankly, it's not a bad strategy from their standpoint, if President Obama and the Democratic Congress comes across as being able to fix the problems of this country, there is nothing the GOP can do to woo voters back. On the other hand, if the President and the current Congress are seen as making things worse, or not being able to make them better, the Rethugs will be ready to supply an alternative.
