Michael Steele is upset because Obama read Kennedy's letter.
Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele said President Obama invoking the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy in his prime-time TV speech to win health-care reform was "bad form" and a "political tool."

"I'm sorry, but I just felt a bit unnerved by it, in the sense he just passed," Mr. Steele told The Washington Times' "America's Morning News" radio show on Thursday.

Mr. Steele was not surprised when Mr. Obama began talking Wednesday night about a letter Mr. Kennedy wrote to him in May that was to be delivered after his death. But hearing excerpts was tough, he said, because Mr. Kennedy's grieving wife, Vicki, sat crying in the audience. <...>

"His wife was still clearly emotional," Mr. Steele said. "I just thought that was bad form."

1. Ted Kennedy and his family would be proud to have his name attached to health care reform
And in fact if his name was used shamelessly, over and over agian to get the job done, I am quite certain that he would approve.

23. That's why his family was there and I certainly agree, he'd want his name used at each turn if
necessary

5. P.S. Mrs. Kennedy turned to Michelle Obama and said the president's speech was magnificent
You could clearly read her lips. she said it was magnificent. And she said it twice as she applauded. Her sincerity was palpable.

13. Yes, that's what I saw, too -
She said it twice, as she applauded.

It was an elegant move, reading Senator Kennedy's letter - which was designed to be read after his death, a factor I find incredibly courageous and moving - and having Mrs. Kennedy and her stepchildren there was just beautiful, graceful.

Unlike Fuckface, who usually parked an Iraqi "war" veteran there, the poor kid usually not having a clue as to what was going on......................

17. Being so close to the time of his death, you just know how the family appreciated it
You don't want people to forget your loved one. People move on and there you are missing still them. So bringing TK into the speech was something that brought him back to his family in a meaningful way because health care meant so much to him.

I may disagree with Obama on some policies - Afghanistan and even his health care proposals. But he has a savvy for what makes people tick and he uses it in a positive way to uplift. That's why I hate those who disrespect him with a purple passion.

28. He has the touch, that's for sure -
he has the absolutely true instinct, knowing when to reach out, literally (his hand on TK's coffin as he embraced Mrs. Kennedy at the funeral Mass) and figuratively - inviting the family, making sure Mrs. Kennedy was seated right next to Mrs. Obama. He rarely makes a false step, and I don't think that's all his advisers - I think that's Obama, pure and simple. He has the touch.

When someone dies, and the rituals end, it's maybe the loneliest time. Suddenly, all that silence. This was the perfect time to have Senator Kennedy's family at such an occasion - after all, it was his life's work.

And that letter - the poignancy of that letter, thinking of him, knowing he was dying, dictating it and editing it and making sure it said what he wanted it to say, all the time knowing he wouldn't be here to see it, any of it.

Sometimes the heartbreak is even more than anyone should have to bear, but Mrs. Kennedy has been magnificent, to use a word...........................

29. I know what you mean about Mrs. K - her face looked so weary
I can't begin to imagine what this past week has been for her. Her usual joyous face is just plain worn out right now. But you could easily read her gratitude.

8. When did Michael Steele become the arbiter of taste?
When his sister was married to Mike Tyson, or when he allowed himself to become the GOPigs' House Negro?

He really doesn't get much of anything, does he?

I wonder if he's that dense, in real life, or is he just saying shit for the sake of saying shit.

Does he ever get anything right?

the Kennedy family was there by invitation and undoubtedly knew that the President would speak about Teddy. He's a dumbass to think that the President would extend the invitation and turn around and upset them.

It'd be nice if Teddy Jr. or Patrick made a general statement of appreciation for the remarks and shut down this carping.

16. Steele is a tool.
No doubt that if the Repubs had a letter from Kennedy, they would use it.

Obviously Kennedy's wife didn't have a problem with the letter being read in that forum.

24. Steele is too dumb to realize that....
Vicki Kennedy was sitting with Michelle Obama and Teddy's sons Rep Patrick Kennedy and Teddy Jr. were sitting there toward the front of the room --- the Kennedy's knew that Pres Obama was going to read part of the letter.

Hey Michael Steele STFU!

Clearly both she and TK wanted this, along with the rest of his family.
