Remember how pissed and outraged we were in 2000 and 2004? |
|
With extremely good reasons!
We were demonstrative in letting it be known in mostly peaceful ways, always sprinkled with intelligence, and as a result, we generated a tremendous grass roots movement(via Howard Dean, etc.) which enabled a black man to become the POTUS, so there was something good that emerged from the dark side of the moon, but the current major revolt and devision of these nutwing rethugs against our Prez and everything we stand for, has me frightened.
These folks are not normal. They are disillusioned into thinking they are patriotic heroes or something, and it's just fucking bizarre!
These folks are made up of the kind of guy or gal who flips you off on the highway, fails to say please or thank you, y'know the general rudeness thing. The Gimmes, it's mine types!
They really are different than us, and I used to just feel sorry for their true ignorance, but now I'm frightened that they think they deserve to overthrow the gov, and that they will actually try by beating, beating, beating their crazy drums!
Their TeaParty Drums!
Their The Hitler-like Obama drums!
Their school speech that brainwashes our children drums!
Their it's okay to bring a gun to these socialist/marxist meetings drums!
Crazy people ARE dangerous. Is it just me? Crazy people scare the crap out of me, almost as much as perpetual ignorance and hatred does!!!

1. It was precisely this style of "involvement" that overthrew |

The democratically elected President of Iran back in 1953. Our CIA encouraged Iranians to pound on car windows and pull people from their vehicles and beat them up, for the "offense" of having a sticker on their car supporting Mossadeq.
These activites are (like you say) very very scary.

3. It is bizarre, and they don't seem to see themselves for what |

they are...filled with hate and working themselves into a frenzy. They exhibit mob mentality and I am particularly worried about those who feel it's just fine to bring a gun with them to their rallies or when Obama is somewhere making a speech. It really is just a matter of time with this kind of behavior for someone to take things too far. It seems this is the GOP's aim. They have done nothing but feed lies to the public & use scare tactics, and not everyone is savvy enough to fact check or go beyond the lyin liars for information.
This is American terrorism, and it seems to be the base for republican propaganda, and absolutely no one from the GOP is doing anything but fanning the flames.

4. I know, but they will when election time comes around again, |
|
when there's something in it for them, but it may be too late by that time.

Black men DO NOT EVER get into a position of power over them. It's against their confederate beliefs that blacks are inferior and should always keep their eyes cast downward, looking at their shoes.
When I lived in SC for 6 months, I cannot tell you how many business people referred to blacks as n****rs. I made a lot of enemies living there. One time, Mr. Gray applied for a maintenance supervisory job and the manager asked him in a room filled with black workers "Do you mind working with n*****s?" to which Mr. Gray said, "Why, are there any here?" He made about 15 black friends that day.

It's like the Civil Rights Movement never happened! I thought we had progressed, but have we? I visited Hilton Head last year and was surprised at all the rethug campaign signs. I guess I was surprised, cuz the island wasn't rural(of course), and I thought that's where most of the rethugs were!

That's the best advice I can give you.
The Germans were afraid and the Nazis took full advantage. We are in much better shape as a country and as a people than Germany was in the 30s.

7. They are only doing what we did |
|
In their own way.
The believe they have very good reasons too.
Truthfully both sides have their crazies, both sides have myths and misrepresentations... It's natural part of the human condition we are all subject to.
Nothing to be afraid of, or to demonize people for IMO.

There are some things that both sides do. Overreacting to gaffes for example. Remember the Special Olympics comment Obama made on Leno, and how suddenly the right wingers were the Special Olympics biggest defenders? That's a game both sides play, and it's just politics. It's how it works. In the age of sound-bite politics, you must never misspeak.
That being said, the shit the right wing is up to now is a whole new ballgame. It's uncharted territory. Congresspeople are screaming at him and waving signs during a speech before a joint session? People bringing guns to presidential speeches? Pastors openly praying for his death? The left has never done anything approaching any of this. These people are off their fucking nut and are out for blood. Now is it cause for alarm? Maybe not. Is it cause for attentiveness and cautious observation? Most definitely.

Off their fucking nut! Praying for blood! I really think the bottom line is racism. I thought how in the world could they hate this obviously gentle, smart, man, with two darling girls. I thought his good vibes, and great oratorial speeches would disarm anything they could dish out. I thought even they were tired of the Dumbya styles, and now it's like those huge crowds on Inauguration Day meant nothing, I feel the swell of hatred too much, too much all around us!
