Accepting an insincere apology should be a "no-no" |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-10-09 06:24 PM by SoCalDem
I wish P. Obama would have just said, he did what his party told him to do, and called..and then just let it go at that..
Joe Wilson was a mannerless lout, who thought it was acceptable to heckle the president in a joint session of congress..
this was not a campaign stop at a barbeque, in Podunk, S.C..
It was planned. he did not suddenly get "frustrated"..anyway.. what is he? 2 yrs old and Momma said No!?
He continued to dis the president in his own relaying of the supposed "apology".
Obama should not have "accepted" the apology..he should have acknowledged it, and then scolded Wilson for not being up on congressional decorum, what with him being a military man, and all.
It was not a "mistake".. It was deliberate

1. Why should Obama scold him publicly? |
|
That kind of behavior would just comes back to haunt him anyway. Besides the world is pretty much scolding Wilson pretty harshly because he offended the Office of the President, not just Obama

2. Could have been a good 'teachable moment' for the GOP children |
|
...a kind of post-script to yesterday's address to school kids about the importance of respect and responsibility.

4. I don't know, but if he did not feel an apology was warranted |
|
I'd say that was a plus for him..
To "offer" an insincere apology is worse than not offering any apology.

5. It's gracious to accept an apology |
|
But that's no reason why the jerk can't be reprimanded or censured by the House.

6. You say "insincere apology" like you have inside knowledge of |
|
what was in the man's heart and mind.
That's problem number 1.
Problem number 2...why on earth would a gracious, educated adult man NOT accept an apology no matter how it sounds to the masses?

7. Obama can be classy AND unleash the attack dogs at the same time. |

Makes sense to me. It looks a hell of a lot better than some other petty petulant office holders in the near past.

9. Keeping the focus on stupid shit instead of policy discussion is a "no-no". |
|
When discourse is about silly crap like Congressional hecklers, we're playing on the GOP's home field -- even if they're the offending party.
By accepting the apology and turning it into a non-issue, Obama steers clear of the bullshit.
