Elimination Communication: Woman Teaching Moms How to Go Diaper Free
Elimination Communication: Woman Teaching Moms How to Go Diaper Free

BERKELEY, CA - A trip through Tibet and China caught Willow Lune's attention not only for the beautiful scenery, but for parenting practices that made a lot of sense to her.

"It was touching to see how bonded the parents and children were," Lune said. "Even infants were able to communicate with their parents when they had to eliminate and the parents were very responsive."

Lune now teaches "elimination communication" at Birthways Studio in Berkeley, guiding moms and dads through the stages of learning their child's elimination cues.

"All animals know not to urinate or defecate on themselves and human babies are no different," said Lune. "They know from the time they're born. This isn't about getting them to hold it. It's about us paying attention to their own natural instincts."

Thirty five states now have support groups for parents who want to raise their babies diaper free. The motivation varies from those seeking an additional bonding experience, to enviornmental concerns, to saving money.

Ya know, all for things like this, but calling it 'elimination' just seems weird to me.

Gonna go eliminate some beer now.

11. Exactly. That line hit me also. Ever seen a sheep? Know why they get their tails cut off?
"i love new parents. and the fucks that prey upon them"

I was reading a new parent book where it instructed you how to play with your infant. Something along the line of:
hold him/her under his/her arms, raise towards ceiling, lower and say "whee". Repeat 3 times.

Yup, that little tidbit would've been worth buying the book for.

13. Humans are not the same as animals

In this respect. No other animal has such a long childhood, nor adolescence.

7. "Teaching MOMS how to go diaper-free"?
I can't recall the last time I saw a mom in diapers.

In short, the headline the TV channel put on this story is sexist. It implies moms are the only caretakers for their children. I believe it's the BABIES who are being trained in being diaper-free.

If they are, who says it's solely up to the mother to train them?

12. As a mom of a youngster, I envied their diaperhood sometimes, was so busy
that it was difficult to get into toilet in time.

Second point. It really angers me when "parenthood" becomes reliant only on the mother. I hear fathers talk about having to "babysit" their kids and become rude about pointing out it is called "parenting" since the female is not the one who is solely responsible, when there is a male parent or other parent involved also.
