Wall to wall 8-year old 9/11 coverage reruns on teevee ......

Can this get ended at some point?

edit to clarify

1. Who is forcing you to watch?
A hell of a lot of people lost their lives and loved ones that day, so at least try to fake a little bit of respect.

5. Respect is one thing
Respectful coverage would be good. Reliving it every year by showing the original broadcast in its full length seems a bit over the top.

2. I'm seeing odes to GW Bush all over Facebook
We can honor the dead without turning it into beatification of the Chimpenfueher, yes?

3. Seven years ago
Nowhere else in the world would people wallow in this crap the way we do here.

We have totally forgotten the freedom we claim people died for on that day.

7. When it is no longer needed as a pretext to send troops to defend the Empire...
If we would all simply agree to forgo a National Health Service in order to send troops to support the Empire, events like 9/11 could be eliminated.

But we're stubborn, so master has to resort to the whip.

Our fault, really.

10. It woudln't be so bad if it were accompanied by some analysis
of what went wrong that day and why... unfortunately it's mostly just wallowing.

I'm all for respectful remembrance, but this is more like just vultures exploiting a tragedy for ratings/ad sales. I don't watch teevee news... but even if I did, I sure wouldn't be bothering with it today.

11. If you don't like it, then don't watch it. Go outside and do something useful.
I worked in lower manhattan and was only five blocks away from the WTC when they were hit. Normally I would have been in my office accross the street from the WTC in the WFC.

Personally, I am glad that the networks are taking the time to honor the innocent victims of the attack.

13. Okay .... first off ......
.... I didn't say I was watching it. I said it was being shown on teevee.

Second ...... many people were affected by it. No one is wishing them to not remember.

The issue is that this is becoming a cliche, and that is counter to the wishes you express. A ceremony, reading the names, discussing it intelligently, analyzing how it has affected us 8 (or 9 or 10 or 20) years hence ..... all that would be better than simply replaying the broadcasts of that day.

Replaying the broadcasts is lazy and increasingly meaningless.

See, your flared nostrils aside, you and I agree, mostly.

14. 99.9999 percent of the innocent victims are in the Middle Eastern countries that WE
have destroyed.

Not to mention the destruction wrought here by the Bushistas ever since that day. Without the crimes done that day by the hijackers, there would have been a different POTUS after 2004.

So, pay respects to all the victims of Bush's treason.

12. Seven years ago would have been just fine to ramp it down. But many Americans, and certainly the
media, will never let an anniversary go by without marking it if they can help it -- the former to provide some sort of ritual, meaning and purpose in their lives; the latter to fill column-inches and air time.

There ain't much else reason.

Also, it's like no one wants to be the guy who says "okay, enough..." After Pearl Harbor, did they do something like this every year forever?
