The Old GOP was a big enough problem, but the NeoConservatives have joined them, wormed their way to the top, kicked out the Old GOP leaders, usurped their power, and are now simply using the GOP name to their own advantage, and they do fool a lot of people into believing that they are the GOP.
Why not refer to them as NeoConservatives from now on, since that's what they really are? Their behavior is uncivilized and savage (as exemplified by the recent townhall meetings and during Pres. Obama's address to Congress) because the NeoConservative leadership seems to have large numbers of sociopaths - and these latter, subtly or not-so-subtly, encourage such behavior in their followers. The top-level executives of business corporations also appear to have a high percentage of sociopaths among them. And they are also mostly NeoConservatives.
Fifty years ago Eisenhower warned us to beware of the Military-Industrial Complex. He was prescient. This MI Complex came into full bloom during the previous Bush Administration, which was top-heavy with sociopaths. And the combination of sociopaths from private industry with sociopaths from government working together was formed to increase one another's dirty profits. This double whammy from private industry and government was too much for the American people to bear, and it produced the financial and political disaster that we're in today.
Obama has inherited an incredibly difficult job. The NeoConservatives, of course, are doing their best to make it worse. They can't help behaving the way they do. Nor are they able to change. We've all seen that reasoning with them doesn't work. And when you give them an inch, they'll take a mile. The only things they do respect are strength and power, and the money which gives them their strength and power.
That is why NeoConservates are so greedy. With money, it is possible for the few to rule over and control the many. And this is the goal of the NeoConservatives: to control the people and make them conform. They tried hard under the Bush Administration, and failed. But they haven't give up. They're trying to make their come-back - regardless of the cost to the American people, in terms of poverty, misery and human lives.
Probably one of the best ways to weaken them permanently, is for Congress to enact laws that will make it impossible for anyone to make massive profits through unfair means: avoiding taxes through loopholes, paying back of past ill-gotten gains, etc... NeoConservatives do not have the numbers, but they make up for it with money to buy their way into success. I say, take away their advantage of making money through unfair means, and their days will be numbered.
