A friend of mine, who is a recovering alcoholic and religious posted a poll which asks

Question: "Should Obama's Health Care plan cover abortions?"

his reply to this (he voted no btw)

I think the results should be passed on to Washington. It seems pretty obvious what the people want! (But then again, how long has it been since 'what the people want' has mattered to anyone there?)

To which I responded:

you do know that it doesn't right jack? there is a law on the books that forbids spending federal money for abortions. it's been on the books for a very long time. this is a NON issue.

And he responded back:

I knew about that law, but if this health care reform package is passed, then federal money will actually get spent on the performance of abortions... How are they going to get past the old law?

so he thinks that somehow this healthcare bill would trump the law already on the books??

no it won't. that is a lie. where are you getting that information from?? there is a lot of misinformation and deliberate lies going around about the healthcare reform bill(s) right now. there are people who like things just the way they are and only want to fatten their wallets further. They are putting this bs out there for the express ... Read Morepurpose of trying to distract from what the bill(s) really are about. I am not exactly thrilled with what is being proposed as I prefer expanding medicare to let everyone buy in.... but if we have arguments, they should be based on facts and not things made up by people who stand to gain from thwarting the fixing of this messed up system.

ps... i am not implying that YOU are lying... i am talking about insurance companies, pharma companies and media outlets who rely on these companies for revenue... as well as congresspeople who get lots of money from insurance companies too.

I do not want to be a jerk, but this bs has got to stop!! Where do they get this bs info from!! I mean, I want to say that so what if they pay for abortions!! I am forced to pay for wars and the killing of innocent people in other countries!! I don't get a say in that. I am forced to pay for illegal wars!! I don't get to opt out of that. But this is moot because the law clearly states that federal monies cannot and will not be used for the purpose of performing abortions. Period end of discussion.
