but but but Wilson was RIGHT.........
According to one of our local birtherbaggers:

"Obama hasn't told us the truth about healthcare reform yet. He says it will not cover illegals, but what he won't tell is he's going to sign a mass amnsity (sic) bill to make them all legal. Maybe when he starts telling the truth, people will start believing him."

Sigh.

3. This is how these folks operate -- "Well there are no Death Panels in the bill, but there will be
Death Panels put in once the bill is passed"

You show them the facts, and then they plow on with what supposedly is "going to happen."

4. Amnsity?
Is that like Amnety? Or Amensty? or are those different things?

they do have a point, Obama wants immigration reform, and i think it's next on his agenda. So the actual illegals of today could ultimately end up covered, as legals benefitting from Amnsity. Or amnety. Or amensty.

I can only imagine the hysterical screaming that will occur when Obama tries immigration reform.

8. "I can only imagine the hysterical screaming that will occur when Obama tries immigration reform. "
I'll second that. Repubs are already fanning the anti-immigrant flames for the sake of their base in the health care reform debate and the issue of their coverage is a tiny, tiny part of the huge problem the US has with health care and reforming it. To give them credit, repubs are good at finding and exploiting hot-button issues that shift the focus away from preserving the benefits of their supporters and serve to defeat any progressive reforms.

If they're able to insert illegal immigrants into this debate, just imagine how fired up they will be when we actually get to immigration reform.

We miss so much when we don't keep our eye on the big picture. This was from days ago... I don't recall seeing a word about it on DU... I could be wrong, but I don't think so.

Worker Status Checks to Start - Federal Contractors Required to Use Electronic System to Verify Employees' Eligibility

By CAM SIMPSON

WASHINGTON -- Agencies across the federal government on Tuesday will start ordering contractors to use an electronic system to verify whether their employees are eligible to work in the U.S.

The sweeping new mandate, crafted by the Bush White House but being implemented by the Obama administration, represents a significant expansion for the so-called E-Verify system, which government officials and independent experts expect to eventually become mandatory for private employers. Already, some states require companies operating within their borders to use it, regardless of whether the companies have government contracts.

U.S. District Court Judge Alexander Williams Jr. rejected an 11th-hour-effort late Friday by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and other business groups to delay the mandate while a federal appeal is pending. Upset about the liability the mandate puts on employers, the groups suing argue it is illegal for the government to extend E-Verify to contractors through an executive order. The Chamber argues that given the state of the economy, this isn't the time to add more costs to U.S. businesses.

Judge Williams had in August dismissed a lawsuit by the groups seeking to have the program thrown out after the Justice Department fought to keep it intact. The Obama administration is using the program as part of its efforts to shift the emphasis in immigration enforcement by focusing on employers.

Edited on Fri Sep-11-09 03:00 PM by treestar
RWers are always against the free market when it comes to this.

Hilariously, they insist that their own ancestors came "legally." Yeah, during the free market of the 19th century. I'm sure it was "legal" to come to the U.S.
