Kentucky GOP ex-lawmaker found wounded after girlfriend's death

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Hours after his former fiancee was found shot to death in Lexington, former gubernatorial candidate Steve Nunn slit his wrists in a Hart County cemetery, according to Kentucky State Police.

Barren County Sheriff Chris Eaton said Nunn cut his wrists outside Cosby United Methodist Church near the Barren County-Hart County line on LeGrande Highway, nearly 100 miles from Lexington. Nunn's parents, former Gov. Louie B. Nunn and former first lady Beula Cornelius Nunn, are buried at the church's cemetery.

Nunn placed mementos on his parents' graves, moved several feet away, then cut his wrists, Eaton said.

Nunn and Ross had a history of domestic conflict. On March 4, a Fayette County judge ordered Nunn to have no contact with Ross for one year because of a domestic violence incident in February.

In July, Ross asked a judge to hold Nunn in contempt of the domestic violence order of protection. Ross alleged that Nunn had violated the restraining order by publishing "tampered photographs" of her.
