Why do Righties think they fucking OWN 9/11?
First of all, it was a national tragedy. It affected us all. Second, even though they've politicized 9/11 to high heaven (yes, I'm looking at YOU Rudy Giuliani...), they scream bloody murder every time a Dem - progressive or not - makes any kind of refeernce to *their* sacred icon.

The latest manufactured controversy is O'Liely bringing on guests who say that Obama is treating 9/11 like "it's no big deal". Where the fuck did they pull that from? On the other hand ScumRush is stating that he resents Obama using his visit to ground zero today to "call for national service". HUH?

They're trying to have it both ways again. They're completely insane.

33. Thank you for saving me posting the same. It amazes me that
no one has really pulled out a publicly acknowledged consensus that this was a massive FAIL of those in office (because it happened on their watch). How they are able to glorify and market it to their advantage is actually both slimy and amazing at the same time. If nothing else, these guys have such a bulletheaded narrowmindedness in such numbers that they succeed in making it work for them.

Shame on us (people who actually think for themselves) for not making it harder for them to do such hypocritical posturing...

Maybe, no?

5. It was their screw up...let them think they own it. That does not make it so.
But it is the surivors of the dead who own it as symbolized by the earth where the bodies of their loved ones will not rest because those bodies were not recovered. It is the firefighters and police who breathed toxic fumes and suffer to this day that own it. It is the soldiers, both alive and dead, who were sent to war and suffer for that sending who own it.

36. THANK YOU.
I live 20 miles from "Ground Zero," and people in my town and all the towns nearby lost citizens in the 9/11 attacks. My family and I aren't cowering in fear, but my rightwing relatives in Buffalo -- 400 MILES from NYC -- are so glad that Bush "fought them over there so they don't have to fight them over here."

The right wing point of view on 9/11 is a classic co-opting of a significant event in almost all Americans' lives. So many of them have no skin in the game, but they see this terrible tragedy as an opportunity to score political points or to feed their freaking childish fears. People who live here, and everyone else who lives in reality, see 9/11 as the tragedy it was and do not live in fear of the boogeyman, despite that awful day.

18. Well in a way they do....
They own the fact that on their watch, despite credible warnings from the security agencies, they let the attacks happen. So yes they own the death, destruction, pain and suffering of that day. They also own the costs of the Afghan War in terms of dollars, lives, etc.

But no they do not own it as a political shroud in which to envelop themselves like they do the American flag. In fact they should be denounced for this because clearly they didn't love America very much if their own man let (or helped) this tragedy occur.

Remember to them Right = Wrong, Black = White, Truth = Lie, etc. They live in an opposite world.

23. Since their guys helped plan it, there's two possible reasons:
1) LIHOP

2) MIHOP

They totally own 9/11.

"In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happens, you can bet it was planned that way."
Franklin D. Roosevelt

"New Pearl Harbor"

Section V of Rebuilding America's Defenses, entitled "Creating Tomorrow's Dominant Force", includes the sentence: "Further, the process of transformation, even if it brings revolutionary change, is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event––like a new Pearl Harbor" (51).<13>

In his appearance on Democracy Now!, theologian David Ray Griffin, author of The New Pearl Harbor: Disturbing Questions about the Bush Administration and 9/11, explains the allusion to "the New Pearl Harbor" from the PNAC report in the title of his book, which argues that PNAC members within the Bush Administration were complicit in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.<37>

Further information: 9/11 truth movement and Controlled demolition hypothesis for the collapse of the World Trade Center
Though not arguing that Bush administration PNAC members were complicit in those attacks, other social critics such as commentator Manuel Valenzuela and journalist Mark Danner,<38><39><40> investigative journalist John Pilger, in The New Statesman,<41> and former editor of The San Francisco Chronicle Bernard Weiner, in CounterPunch,<42> all argue that PNAC members used the events as the "Pearl Harbor" that they needed––that is, as an "opportunity" to "capitalize on" (in Pilger's words), in order to enact long-desired plans.<43>

"When the Towers came down," William Rivers Pitt writes in his editorial in Truthout.org, "these men saw, at long last, their chance to turn their White Papers into substantive policy."<[br />

24. They love 9/11 because it was the best thing that ever happened to them
Al Qaeda was the single biggest contributor to George W. Bush's 2004
election campaign. Without 9/11, all Bush would have had was a sinking
economy and deteriorating relations with just about every country on
the planet that wasn't us. Not even Diebold would have rescued him from
that. Bin Laden did.

34. They're willing to give us 9/10.
But seriously, I think it has to do with cognitive dissonance. They've been carefully taught to consider liberals as unAmerican, and they don't like thinking that we're all Americans in the end. So claiming 9/11 means liberals aren't American anymore, and they can go back to hating.

die to fight people who didn't do 9/11 to us.

And remember how they were about the soldiers dying in Iraq when we were losing 100 a month? They compared it to the number of deaths in a major city's backstreets. But then every death on 9-11 is somehow more sacred.
