Why do Republicans want to own the tragic day of 9/11 so badly?
Bush ran ads touting his record on 9/11 with footage from the terrorist act
Glenn Beck has his little 9/12 project
Rudy Giuliani based his campaign off of it
If we make any change to the post 9/11 policies that Bush implemented, then we're asking for another 9/11
But it seems like Republicans want to form a lynch mob after Obama called for 9/11 to be a national day of service

Doesn't this seem just a tad bit on the ghoulish side to anyone else, or is that just me?

1. same reason they exploit religion
because a lot of people don't think clearly when it comes to 9/11 or religion, and when people don't think clearly you can slip stuff past them.

3. Bush, Cheney and Condi dropped the ball so it really is their...
...event. And let's not forget Anne Coulter's tirade on 9/11 widows. The horror of that day belongs to them. They spent the next seven years doing nothing about it.

republicans are vampires, that's why.

13. Sorry, they didn't drop the ball.
It bounced just they way they wanted it to. 9/11 is really their event. Much more so than a lot of people are willing to admit.

18. be honest, were all of you terrorized?
Edited on Fri Sep-11-09 10:19 PM by busybl
I was shocked, I was angry, I was in mourning, but I haven't spent the last 8 yrs looking under the
bed for terrorists. I didn't look under the bed for commies in the 50s either.
Government lies. How do you think got so rich and fat?
edited for addition. I imagine people in NY were terrorized and rightfully so. The trauma is even hard to comprehend.

5. Seems kind of strange basing your fame on a massive security failure
And especially during their watch.

It must be something like "Remember the Maine" where a ship got blown up in Havana harbour. But that was a battle cry for the Spanish-American war, NOT a declaration of victory.

10. Because it gave them everything they wanted.
9/11 began the great glory days for the neocons, Bush-lovers, the mega-transnational corporations, war lovers, the Dr. Strangeloves, so on and so forth.

The Republicans got two, three wars. They got to push the unitary executive, they got to torture people, they got to gut the Bill of Rights, they got to raid the federal treasury for their cronies, and etc.

Are you kidding, for the current breed of radical Republicans, 9/11 was the greatest day in American history.

12. Atrios nailed this a few days ago..."9/11 has been the holiday for online conservatives."
to wit:

It doesn't really matter what Obama says about 9/11. He could declare it "kill a Muslim day" and they'd think it was insufficiently rage-filled. 9/11 has been the holiday for online conservatives. It was the day that gave them meaning. And they don't think it's theirs anymore, and they're mad.
