Is Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper's Bush-lite administration about to get the boot?
:nopity:

via the Toronto Star:

Government could fall Friday
THE CANADIAN PRESS

OTTAWA–A critical vote that could bring down the minority Conservative government has been tentatively scheduled for next Friday, sources tell The Canadian Press.

The so-called ways and means motion is usually a routine matter that signals an impending vote on a budget bill, but this time might very well act as the trigger that launches an election.

Conservative sources say the motion is likely to be introduced on Sept. 18, and as per parliamentary rules must be voted on immediately. Prime Minister Stephen Harper will have just returned from a trip to the United States, and would be ready to visit the Governor General and kick off an election.

A spokesman for Government House Leader Jay Hill said meanwhile that "the final timing decision has not yet been definitely made."

All parties have braced themselves for an election that seems increasingly inevitable. .......(more)

3. A lot of people up here are bracing for Yet Another Status Quo Ante election
I'm willing to be pleasantly surprised, though.

The last several campaigns were ugly and content-free enough that it's keeping voter turnout down.

4. It looks that way
The Liberals seem to be dead set on calling an election. Michael Ignatieff, the Liberal leader may become the new PM, although NOT with a majority.

Which is fine by me.

The Liberals still aren't committed progressives to me. But they're better than the Conservatives.

Only our Liberals have 23% more bone matter in their vertebrae.

7. Harper has replaced Tony Blair as America's foreign poodle.
It would be nice to be rid of him. On the flip side however, I read that he appointed a socialist to be Canada's next ambassador to the US. What is up with conservatives in Canada?

9. Im not optimistic
Someone talk some sense in me...the Liberals are dragging ass in the polls and no one wants a coalition government (or do they?).

10. What if it was an NDP/Liberal coalition?
A NDP majority would be better, of course, but anything would be an improvement over the Calgary wing of the neocon shitbags running the Great White North.

11. It seems that talk of a coalition is a tool by Harper to scare people in voting Conservative
So if thats an option being considered, its possible they just aren't airing it yet.

12. Harper's probably following the example of his fellow right winger NuttyYahoo in Israel
who actually lost his last election, but managed to become the PM anyway, by building a coalition with the factions even more extreme than himself. But Harper's already on the right wing fringe of Canada's right wing party, so he'd have to go slightly to the left.... which in Canada's case would be the not-so-Liberals. Unless he wants to cut a deal with the Quebec separatists party, or whatever they're called. (Don't really know much about their politics, but if they're secessionists, they gotta be right wingers, right?)

13. No the bloc isn't right-wing, I don't think
I can't get my head around what they are really. Sometimes it seems they are whatever they need to be to gain the most favor for their province. Maybe someone else has a better idea. Im fairly new to it all
