Dean, Rove cross swords in highly civil debate
By Muriel Kane

On the evening of September 11, DePauw University hosted a debate between former Vermont Governor Howard Dean and former White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove.

Rove came across as the more accomplished debater, aggressively pressing home his points, while Dean appeared at times to be taking an unnecessarily defensive position, or perhaps to be caught between defending the Obama administration and stating his own beliefs.

1. With what authority does Rove speak? Why would Dean even agree to such
a "debate"? Like Robert Gibbs said, why are we still listening to them?

I hate this -- I think so highly of Dean. If this writer's viewpoint is accurate, he just got out-smarmed. Rove's an oily snake. Dean's a good man.

3. From the live thread being blogged during the debate, I have a tough time believing this writer's

slant is accurate, but until I have more info, I'm going to withhold final judgment.

I agree though that getting on a playing field with these criminals is never a good plan, even when wits, intelligence, and morals are greatly on our side. It just isn't worth it to give them the equal ground on which to spew their venom.

They should be shackled in a dimly lit cement room somewhere.

5. Yeah, and like most of us, the blogger is hearing it through his bias/filter.
So he must be a Repub. :7

And I couldn't agree more with your statement that we shouldn't give them equal ground. And check THIS out (from today's news):

<then-White House Counsel Alberto Gonzales was in Norfolk, Va., speaking to government employees about ethics>. ...

Whaaaat? Gonzales speaking about ETHICS? The irony SCREAMS.

8. How much more of a ridiculous disconnect from reality can you get than Gonzales speaking about
anything within a thousand miles of ethical? That's just ridiculous.

6. More people will read this writer's slant than will listen to the actual debate
That's how it works. They report. And decide.

4. I listened in and it seemed Rove drew more applause from the crowd
anybody familiar with the venue and who set this up?

7. This is known as the Bandwagon Fallacy
Just because more people agree with you doesn't automatically make your position correct.

After all, 55 percent of Americans polled believe they are protected by guardian angels.
