If IHad a Rocket Launcher.
Edited on Sat Sep-12-09 12:21 AM by Liberal In Texas
Bruce Cockburn. If you haven't heard it, more's the pity.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7vCww3j2-w

Here comes the helicopter -- second time today
Everybody scatters and hopes it goes away
How many kids they've murdered only God can say
If I had a rocket launcher...I'd make somebody pay

I don't believe in guarded borders and I don't believe in hate
I don't believe in generals or their stinking torture states
And when I talk with the survivors of things too sickening to relate
If I had a rocket launcher...I would retaliate

On the Rio Lacantun, one hundred thousand wait
To fall down from starvation -- or some less humane fate
Cry for guatemala, with a corpse in every gate
If I had a rocket launcher...I would not hesitate

I want to raise every voice -- at least I've got to try
Every time I think about it water rises to my eyes.
Situation desperate, echoes of the victims cry
If I had a rocket launcher...Some son of a bitch would die

And I also recommend:
"Lovers in a Dangerous Time"

14. nice thought! i have thought sometimes we should give 5 cents to republican candidates, and causes,
well maybe 2 cents, just to mess with their processing. i love the idea of sabots in the gears.

16. Actually Thom Hartman gives a token amount to the RNC
every year just to get the "talking points" the RNC throws out ever week. It's actually a good idea.

20. Many many free email addresses on GMail.
Just make something up, and voila, an EMail address.

I have like 3 or 4 now. Unlimited storage space.

13. Bruce reminds me of me.
Wire rimmed glasses, blondish hair, and instead of a guitar, I carried a full-sized ENG/EFP camera on my shoulder (or in the bag) wearing one of those vests with all the pockets with my media ID in the glassine envelope over the left pocket.

I still do it. But I'm too old to be jaunting off to the year of living dangerously.

12. All the diamonds in the world...
I saw Bruce Cockburn in a very small venue in Kansas City in 2008.
MAYBE, I was joined by 200 appreciative hard core fans.
Just Bruce, and about ten of his acoustic guitars including a glimmering National Steel.

He sang all the biggies and he saved "Rocket Launcher" for his second encore.

Bruce spat out the words "If I had a rocket launcher, some son of a bitch would die" with venom that night.

Then he switched guitars and played "Nicaragua" and "Wondering where the Lions are" to close the show.

THIS guy is the REAL Bruce.

If you don't know him, your missing a genuine artist in full.

15. I am envious.
I have worked in the media (broadcast TV) for over 30 some years (we won't talk about how old I am, OK?) I have met so many famous people it would take a couple of hours to recount it all.

Anyway, I never met Bruce and have never seen him in concert. He is one of the greats. To the people that poo ppo Canadians, FU.

Bruce is a storyteller and a poet who I would love to meet sometime.

19. Hey LIT...
You know good music, and that makes you and I friends.
Damn, I love DU because I get to share memories with people like you.
Have you heard Bruce's all acoustic album called "Speechless"?
No vocals, just him and his guitars.

If you like this kind of music, seek out Kelly Joe Phelps and prepare to be blown away.
I highly recommend his "live" album called "Tap the Red Cane Whirlwind"

He does a version of "Hard time killin' floor blues" that will sear it into your soul forever.

Trust me.
