The following is a message i recently sent to my Senator Al Franken. I suggest you do the same, Make your voice heard.
*
I recently read an article on Openleft.com entitled "EXCLUSIVE: UnitedHealth Lobbyist Announces Pelosi Fundraiser As She Begins Backing Off Pub Option"
First off let me state for the record i am a Liberal. In the past i have considered myself a 'Democrat'
I considered myself a Democrat when i voted for you. Voted for Madia. Voted for Obama. But over the last few months i have wavered. I have lost confidence in MY congress. MY representatives. MY leaders.
'We will not waiver on a Public Option' -I heard this line over and over again from the 'Leaders of Leaders' Reid, Pelosi, and Obama. Yet reading story after story. Doing my research. Listening between the lines; I have come to a starch realization: Democrats are in bed with Corporate interests just as much as Republicans have been in the past. The only difference is the nature of the Corporation.
I would gladly appreciate a response to my concerns. Because as it stands right now i have lost confidence in my party. I have lost confidence in the Democrats to put the peoples interests before Corporate influence. And i am afraid my concerns are well placed and well justified.
Thank You,

2. But wait, it gets better |
|
It gets a whole lot worse than the abandonment of the public option.
The current Obama plan (as it appears in the House) does not go into effect until 2013. This means no "insurance exchange / network," no mandate, no regulations on insurance companies, for 4-5 more years (and the implementation could be delayed).
But wait, it gets better ...
The plan allows for a "grace period" that gives insurance companies 5 years to comply with the new regulations. This means that they can continue dropping coverage, jacking up rates, imposing low lifetime maximums, refuse to pay claims, UNTIL 2018!
By that time there will be 80-100 million people with no health insurance, and basically no health care.
Do you think Obama will still be in office in 2013?
He is a cynical politician who tells people what they want to hear, and then refuses to follow through on his promises. No one is going to get healthcare through this plan, and the only people who are going to come out ahead are the HMOs.
I can't even listen to him anymore--it is an insult to my intelligence.
