Batshit-crazy Beckian Patients coming out of the woodwork... |
|
I know when I walk into the treatment room and the first thing out of someone's mouth is "Do you have an e-mail address?"...I know what's next...
so far, THREE copies of Beck's 'book' have been left for me.
Reminds me of "Mein Kampf"
Trying to stay polite and professional...

1. Tell them you don't have time to read fiction |
|
or "fantasy" genre. Wonder what "genre" would sound like to a freeper? jawn-rah They'd probably twist it up and think you told them they had the clap.

but I don't. I can't get into this with these people...I change the subject as quickly as possible and many of them get the point and just stop. I AM the one with the sharp instruments! :sarcasm:

I'm a teacher in a very conservative area. I was once very open about my political leanings and then I had a student who was a major behavior problem. Her parents said I was picking on her because she was a Republican. Thankfully no one bought that but it was unpleasant for a while and they tried to get the school board involved. Then the kid was caught selling drugs out of her car and it was she who was before the school board trying to avoid expulsion.
I'm more subtle now and don't openly discuss politics in class. There are a few kids who have Obama stickers on their notebooks or have the guts to wear Obama teeshirts to school. We have little chats from time to time, but I generally focus on my content area. You have sharp instruments, I have a gradebook.
Disclaimer: I would never retaliate against a student for political views by lowering a grade. (I didn't really need to say this, did I?)

I'm actually extra careful around these folks...extra-solicitous, etc.

If you're like me you use a charcoal grill and never use starter fluid, but instead use a chimney to start your coals.
And if you're like me you're always looking for a good reliable paper source to use as starter fuel for your charcoal chimney.

you also know that there's a stench which will get into the meat if you use the wrong starter...that's why I wouldn't use the Beck Book.
I once had a large yellowjacket nest in my grille one Spring, and immolated them. The burnt paper-insect odor lasted for WEEKS.

7. Young girl on the plane with me last week, clutching Beck's book like it was a bible. |
|
She looked all of about 18; I asked her if she had read much of it yet and what she thought. She'd already read it once and was now reading it again; marking the sections she really liked. She said Beck was her hero.
At that point, I realized nothing I said would make a difference so I didn't say anything, just smiled.
Nothing to be done about the teh crazy.
