WTF? Obama administration severs ties with ACORN in response to Glenn Beck's criticism

by John Aravosis (DC) on 9/12/2009 08:56:00 AM

In lieu of Joe's open thread, I want to talk a little bit about something that happened late yesterday.

FOX's Glenn Beck, whose criticism got a top Obama aide fired this week, has also been agitating about ACORN and its involvement with the 2010 census. The Obama administration has just announced that it is severing its ties with ACORN, and they admitted that they made the move because of the conservative criticism.

The Census Bureau on Friday severed its ties with Acorn, a community organization that Republicans have accused of voter-registration fraud.

In splitting with Acorn, Mr. Groves sought to tamp down negative publicity that the partnership would taint the 2010 census.

23. Exactly. They throw their base under the bus, and keep trying to appease a hate monger.

Yup, that's chess alright.

:wtf:

"Never before in all our history have these forces been so united against one candidate as they stand today. They are unanimous in their hate for me‹and I welcome their hatred."

6. It seems that way, and bullies always come back for more when they figure out
that they can always roll somebody.

This White House can be rolled, so we can expect lots of bullies, not just Beck, to roll them.

5. I may be wrong but
I think it has more to do with the behaviors of a number ACORN employees nation wide than beck - but that does beg the question as to why we still employ private militias overseas after seeing their "off duty" behaviors on the news recently.

Personally I refuse to attribute that kind of power to that little shit.

13. Each of these people
Had problems in their vetting - we're just not used to seeing an administration serious about holding its appointees to high standards.

Look - I hate beck, he's just the latest flavor of the month in the never ending hate fest that is the reich wing in America - but in the end he can only weild the power we hand him.

11. Beck didn't fire them,he did expose them
I really doubt anyone or very few support a gov't funded organization, Acorn, (they take funds), proactively setting up a house of prostitution.

Skirting tax laws and lets be honest, this house would have been in a area where people who need real help and are trying to live crime free and raise thier children.

Not every Acorn employee is corrupt but those who are should be removed.

21. They never set up a house of prostitution.
Edited on Sat Sep-12-09 12:40 PM by chrisa
I did hear that some people went in with hidden cameras, and an employee was willing to help them do taxes on a brothel that would sell abducted child prostitutes. I would imagine that's quite obviously a violation of the organization's policies. They had an agenda, so I'm skeptical.

"Not every Acorn employee is corrupt but those who are should be removed."

Agreed, for any organization.

and ACORN should have trained it's people so tightly, and have such tight procedures, that that should never have happened.

Especially given that they knew they were being over-scrutinized by the public.

16. Every govt agency does not
report everything it does to Obama directly or even the white house at all.

Some guy at the Census Bureau did this for all we know no one at the white house even knows about it.

17. Don't you love the swiftness of the rule of law when it comes to
organizations who do enormous good for the poor.

If a few bad apples can represent the work and reputation of acorn then how come the ins. corporations that have denied care to millions of paying customers over decades with the hundreds of thousands of deaths resulting are given a main seat and countless white house "private meetings" to craft mandated reform.
Why is the president inviting these ins. criminals into the white house and shunning acorn for a couple bad employees who, for whatever this is worth here these days, DID NOT kill anybody.

How much more obvious does the corruption have to be for folks to see it.

22. My sentiments exactly...
This is insane. ACORN has a budget of approximately $1 Million
for every city they are in (small,no?)With that million, they
pay for rent, employees, legal aid, & advocacy projects.
As they are in 14,000 communities, they are left with a
terribly small personnel budget. Of course they will have poor
employees working there from time to time. It's a good thing
these well-off white kids go after people working for
education funds, fair pay, & affordable housing instead of
conservatives who scam & hide real money... Rick Scott
anyone? The Conservatives for Patients Rights leader is
infamous for his huge medicaid scams.
