1. We now have a problem in that region, one of our own making.

The Taliban running Afghanistan is / was no big deal. Sucks for the Afghans that left, really sucks for the women of Afghanistan... but hey, that's their problem, no? Now the problem is that if we leave Afghanistan, the Taliban will take over both Afghanistan and Pakistan. And Pakistan has nukes, quite a number of nukes, and real missiles too.

Theocrats (of any religion) having the control of nukes is not a good idea for the rest of the planet.

That being said, I'm not sure that continued occupation of Afghanistan with UAV "raids" into Pakistan is going to fix this problem either. I don't know WHAT will fix it now, quite frankly.
