I think what the media does is when the liberals/progressives have a rally and let's say 100000 people show up they say '1000's marched' so that when the conservatives/reactionaries march and only 10000 show up they can still say '1000's marched' and it makes it sound like the 2 protests drew similar numbers of people. As usual downplaying the liberal protest while overstating the conservative march.
