Had a conversation with an old school republican. |
|
You know. One of those from before the neo-con take over.
He trotted out the same old tired lines about a huge government bureaucracy if we had public option or, horrors, medicare for all. Said the government could never handle it.
I just said that it worked in France, and that I hated to think the French were so very much smarter than Americans.
Because he was old school republican and not one of the current crop of crazies, he was brought short. He had to agree. Today's republican asses would have just non-sequitered into wondering why I hated America and why didn't I marry France if I loved it so much.
Kinda refreshing.

1. I remember my parents being a little perturbed when my very first |

vote went for Kennedy. My mother more so because she worked for county government that was all red. My retort was he was smart, catholic and Irish and being a Murphy, she should re-evaluate. Hahaaa, it never came up again.

2. Old school republicans are great! |
|
Good Ideas. Rule of law. Balanced budget. Respect the president. Manners. Respect for community and other's opinion. Knowledge of civics. Oh, not every republican shared these ideas, far from it! But it was there.
They didn't leave the party, the party left them.
