Ex-Blagojevich fundraiser Kelly dead

September 12, 2009 7:22 PM | UPDATED STORY

Christopher Kelly, a key figure in the federal corruption probe into former Gov. Rod Blagojevich, is dead.

The Cook County medical examiner's office today confirmed that Christopher Kelly of Burr Ridge was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital at 10:46 a.m. The office said Kelly died of salicylate intoxication. According to medical reference guides, salicylates are used in anti-inflammatory and pain relief medications.

Kelly was found in a lumber yard near 173rd Street and Cicero Avenue in Country Club Hills late Friday, said the town's mayor, Dwight Welch. Kelly ended up at Oak Forest Hospital, where officials alerted authorities of his whereabouts about 3 a.m., Welch said.

1. Suicide?
I mean, how does an adult man accidentally consume so much aspirin to kill himself? Eat Ben Gay?

This is bizarre.

3. Kelly had already pleaded guilty to two other charges.....
and was facing a couple of terms in prison (one was 37 months), that were completely unrelated to the Blagojevich pay to play charges. Could well have been suicide. This is too new to have been reported on the Chicgao 5:30 news (I live in the Chicago area).

There was some talk that he might have been cooperated with the authorities to nail Blagojevich. Should be interesting.

5. Could have been planning to sing to shorten a sentence?
"Kelly was found in a lumber yard near 173rd Street and Cicero Avenue in Country Club Hills late Friday..."

OR, was expected to sing by certain parties? Very mysterious. Does one ususally go to an obscure lumber yard to o.d?

6. That's the general thought about why he was allegedly turning evidence over....
Edited on Sat Sep-12-09 08:03 PM by greatauntoftriplets
As you say, it's very mysterious. Can't wait for tonight's news. I don't that he was expected to sing. The local media have speculated that John Harris, Blago's former chif of staff, also pled guilty to turn evidence and avoid some jail time.

10. That will be the implication.
I expect a big ugly conspiracy theory out of this. It's just too tempting for them to resist.
