Freepers losing their minds as Fox News says crowd in "tens of thousands"
Usually somebody is kind enough to go over and recap the insanity.

I got impatient so I wandered over there and heads are exploding because Fox had a realistic number for the crowds, which they were sure was in the millions.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/09/12/tea-party-express-arrives-march-washington-protest-government-spending/

The tens of thousands of protesters marched to the U.S. Capitol chanting various slogans and waving posters that voiced a rather broad array of grievances against big government and the leaders, particularly President Obama, who the protesters blame for its size and scope.

By tomorrow afternoon these demonstrations will all be history as several dozen cities start the begining of the NFL season all with crowds bigger than their "March On Washington".

1. I must say I'm surprised Faux reported the number accurately.
What's up with that? They lie about everything else.

8. MSNBC says hundreds of thousands???WTF!!!!???
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22425001/vp/32813988#32813988

Faux was, for the first time, correct over MSNBC. What gives at MSNBC? Is the weekend crew trying to get ratings with the rednecks?

All I could decipher is that "they" are claiming "thousands" .... I must admit I did not have the patience to watch the entire thing, though :(

10. Oooh, and OchoCinco said he has a tweet surprise for us.
I'm sure Bailey has something planned to deal with Mr. Johnson.

OchoCinco is not what I plan to call him after tomorrow.

4. 10s of thousands...
well, yes, 20K is "10s of thousands".

By using an overhead shot and some closeups to estimate density, plus google planimeter, I come up with 20K +/- 5K.

Could be stretched into 30K (because the overhead isn't precise, taken as it was from the capitol steps).

No way is the crowd at 50K+.... an no freakin way does it go near 100K.

My brother lives a few blocks from the Capitol. His wife works at the Native American Museum.

He said they noticed no such crowds. It was business as usual with them doing grocery shopping, etc.

To be fair, I can assume they could have possibly missed a small crowd gather and march, but I seriously fucking doubt it. Certainly not millions let alone 100k. I'd imagine they would have had problems with just 50k in that area?

On edit: I think one of the speakers asked everyone to "text" somewhere so they could get correct head counts? Watch this person announce numbers in the next day or so.

Only thing is, I can see each person text numerous times to inflate counts. Add to that, have any friends that were not even there do the same shit.

I could be wrong of course as I was just strolling by the TV as he was speaking.

5. And where was Glenn Beck?
Beck wasn't even in DC. He ran a special show from NYC, and complained that detours for the Labor Day parade (yes, held after the actual holiday) made midtown traffic insane. Plus: it was all the fault of the unions! Even Beck didn't want to get into a crowd estimate smackdown, so he went along with the tens of thousands number too.

6. It was just another Saturday in DC -
nothing big about this gathering. Nothing out of the ordinary. Nothing was disrupted, no roads into the city were closed down, the regular numbers of PortaPotties were out there, and life went on as usual in downtown DC. Tourists roamed in and out of the various Smithsonians, runners and cyclists were all over the place, traffic was just fine, and none of us locals really noticed their little event.

The idea that anyone could see the photos of this assemblage and think in terms of "one million" or "one and one half million" participants is laughable. That they're using photographs from some other event so long ago - on a very sunny day with a big shadow cast by the Washington Monument, when today was overcast and gray and densely clouded, not a shadow anywhere - is just pathetic.

One loser tried to pass off a photo from - this is rich in irony - President Obama's Inauguration as one taken today, but the people in heavy clothing and all the trees without leaves were a dead giveaway. Except to the moran who tried to pass it off as today.

They're just pathetic, and their big old 9/12 thing was a big old
