Forget fetus personhood; group in FL wants to outlaw birth control
Well I have to give it to Personhood Florida; this religious freakshow group makes it clear that no PIV sexual activity must occur, lest a sperm meet an egg and human intervention through The Pill slaughter the embryo.

A nationwide anti-abortion group launched an effort in Florida Friday to outlaw all abortions and certain types of birth control, including oral contraceptives and the morning-after pill.

The religion-infused movement, called "Personhood Florida," would define conception in Florida's constitution at the "biological beginnings," supporters said -- when the sperm meets the egg. The group filed its amendment today but the exact ballot language is still being worked out, said Secretary of State Spokeswoman Jennifer Krell-Davis.

The amendment seeks to outlaw all abortions, even in cases of rape and incest. Also criminalized: the morning-after pill and oral contraceptives taken by women, known as the pill. "There are some (birth control) methods that kill a child," said Pat McEwan, who is leading the Personhood Florida group.

The amendment faces extremely long odds. First, supporters must gather 676,811 signatures to make the ballot -- by Feb. 1, to go before voters in 2010.

And Florida has a 60-percent threshold for constitutional amendments to become law, a very difficult hurdle even for less radical ideas. In Colorado, the only state where the "personhood" amendment has appeared on the ballot, voters overwhelmingly rejected the idea by an almost three-to-one margin.

Did I see a ban on the condom? Where's that!? Isn't the sperm sacred too? This is where theocracy leads us -- all you straight people out there who don't think the religious right is coming into your bedroom or relationships need to think again. The sodomy-obsessed, fetus worshipping womb controllers and forced birth advocates don't want anyone having any sex at any time (excluding of course, Republican Sexual Hypocrites, since no rules apply to them).

1. I'll bet they support birth control for non-whites.
Its only white Floridans they want to push out the babies.

2. Oh man, I can see this having a big success!
My family was raised Catholic, and when I said to my son that these dumb wads were against BC he said "O yea, have a bunch of kids you can't afford, that's a great idea!: Trust me, they will fail on this one!

3. No one should be surpirsed at this...
Abortion was just he first goal. What these people want is a Theocracy where their twisted version Christianity is the law of the land.

7. Why is my state government working out "the exact ballot language"?
Shouldn't the group write it's own language and use that "exact ballot language" on their petitions? Otherwise, the language could and probably would change the impact of the amendment, therefore invalidating all the petition signatures.

Keep the government away from the relationship between a woman and her doctor!

11. With extra crispy empathy, I think I can see where they are coming from.
For a members of Personhood Florida, a zygote must seem like an intellectually superior being.

14. I realized many years ago that BC would be their next target
I was hearing some murmuring in fundie circles about the pill being an abortifacient. I knew if they ever outlawed abortion they would start on birth control.

15. You can't even explain evolution to half the country. Namely the red states.
How the hell are you going to tell them that the pill does not cause abortions?

16. It's good comedy, but not the least bit worrisome. There are all kinds of groups out there
all over the country, that have ridiculous and patently unrealistic agendas.
Eh, let 'em try. It'll be funny to watch.

17. Don't be too sure -
I once thought, many years ago, that the religious right nutcases didn't have a chance. Now look at them! The rest of the country is becoming aware of their agenda, though, so you may be correct. I hope so. They scare me because if they could get their way, the Taliban would have nothing on them. Women would probably be required to wear those riduculous "modesty" swimsuits they sell and dress like they did in 1800..

In fact the suffocation has already begun.

19. As a straight person, I've never believed the right wasn't coming into my bedroom
They've had an unhealthy interest in it for as long as I can remember.

What they want is for the rules to be clear and both enforced and taught by society. That makes their jobs as parents easier to raise the kid according to their beliefs. They don't want to have to deal with teaching kids that other people might see things differently. (Concluded by observing and talking with fundamentalists in my own extended family). It doesn't matter if the kids grow up to be adults who sin - "everyone sins" - what matters is that they know the rules (they know that it's sin even if they do it anyway) and the parents didn't have to deal with the inconvenience of talking to them about other people thinking and living differently.

I'm only describing what I think is at the root motivation for many followers of these groups. The attitude disgusts me but if we understand that like all other irrational movements it is rooted in fear and insecurity, maybe that makes it easier to fight.

21. Pretty stupid thing to do, what with the polar ice melting and all
the ocean levels are going to rise, little by little...or maybe a lot, who knows?

Since Florida doesn't really have any high ground anyplace, what's going to happen to all those people as the waters claim the land?

come up North?

I don't think so.

Hope those morons can tread water for a long time.
