2. According to Free Republic, one of the pics came from a gathering of The Promise Keepers.
How long until the post that had that pic gets scrubbed?

3. this one a troll keeps posting from the Malkin site

It has the flag at half-staff - flags were not flown at half staff today.

4. Here is the same camera now
http://www.trafficland.com/city/WAS/camera/9087/index.html

Note the position of the flag relative to the buildings. But I don't think that is a smoking gun - the flag may not have been returned to full staff from the previous day. In any case, I'm not impressed that the view shows very many by DC protest standards.

5. As you say, that crowd is not impressive relative to DC protest
standards, it is not dense - plenty of room to spread out.

12. I'm still suspicious about the flag.
No, not denying they had 60,000 or 70,000 people at the Teabagathon, but Robb posted something interesting (look at the flag position:)
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=6531324&mesg_id=6531656

Hard to believe that they forgot to raise the flag up. Dunno.

I think that is an image from a different march. I've been trying to track it down.

14. I searched for it, couldn't find anything.
Except a comment on youtube where the time-lapsed version was shown, saying that the flag can be on half mast until noon next day. I'm not familiar with the procedures, but perhaps a local DUer can shed some light on it.

25. merh, are you still concerned about the flag flying at half staff?
I posted a link below to a trusted DUer who commented on the flag at half staff when watching the traffic cam in real time. I watched the web cam, too, and I can verify that that photo on Malkin's website is accurate. Of course her claim that there were 1 to 2 mil people there is grossly exaggerated, but, hey, do we expect anything less?

17. Robb's comparison post was made on Sat Sep-12-09 at 05:40 PM
A good three and a half hours after this DU post below that showed the tea baggers marching past the traffic cam.

This thread, started by DUer WeDidIt on Sat Sep-12-09 at 02:02 PM, showed the live traffic cam when the marchers were marching. Angrycarpenter, on post #2 on Sat Sep-12-09 at 02:05 PM, makes reference to the flag at half staff:

"I bet that flag at half mast in the foreground really burns their ass."

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=389&topic_id=6529980#6529998

Please, all this discussion about this traffic web cam and flag at half staff is utter nonsense. The traffic cam photo is accurate. What is not accurate is the claim that there were 1 to 2 million people there. And, Malkin using this web cam photo as proof that there were that many people there is simply bogus, of course.

Here's a video that shows the marchers when they were funneling in and you can see the space between them. The web cam looked impressive initially, because from a distance, all one saw was a large crowd. But, when you see more video from other angles, you can see how spread out they were: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VMXz6xGeqc

Let's keep this honest. They can hang themselves all by themselves without our side making bogus claims and concocting conspiracy theories about flags at half staff.

19. As I said in my post upthread,
I have no claim to deny the 60,000 or 70,000 teabagathoners marching happily on, carrying their homemade signs 'Glenn Beck keep us infromed!' with uttermost pride, so please don't accuse me of starting a conspiracy theory here.

I was just wondering about why the flag was on half mast on 09/12/09. Nothing more, nothing less. They're still a minority, and I'm happy that they have the right to march and show off.

24. Yes, but you can still see the gaps in the crowd, whereas with many large events,
it is hard to move through the crowd, especially when they are being directed and funneled into a specific space. I am a bit claustrophobic, and when I attended and worked events for Kerry in '04 and for Obama in '08, I avoided the thick of the huge crowds because they tend to be so compact. This one didn't seem so compact. It appears that the space they were marching in was large enough for them to expand out and move comfortably.

26. Each person in their march takes up twice the space compared to Dem rallys.
The camera probably was "cropping" out the edges of the crowd.

7. merh, that was an actual traffic cam photo from earlier today
and it does us no good to claim it was false.

An OP that was started earlier this morning linked to the cam where this photo was taken. Notice #2 angrycarpenter's response about the flag half-staff:

9. Thats not AT the Capitol,
which can be seen way in the foreground. Article says its the Mall.

CNN says this:

The march leading to the Capitol stretched for blocks on the final day of the Tea Party Express' cross-country bus tour, which began August 28 in Sacramento, California. En route, the group hosted rallies in about 30 cities. An official crowd estimate was not available, but reporters at the scene described the massive crowd as reaching the tens of thousands.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/09/12/tea.party.rally/

So they've been gathering for some time.

I'm concerned that there are so many badly informed people. We may have a bigger problem than I/we thought.

20. I saw that traffic cam live
Similar on the stream. If they had even 30,000 trying to assemble at Freedom Plaza, the bodies would fill the space.

As to the flag, I'm pretty sure it is sitting atop the Willard Hotel complex, not a Federal building.
