ACTION ALERT - Call these members of Congress to stop Insurance Industry Giveaway on Health Care

There really doesn't seem to be any limit to what the administration will do to pass Rahm Emanuel's neoliberal giveaway to the insurance industry. The "author" of the plan released by Baucus (and apparently by Mike Ross) is a former VP of Wellpoint. Now AHIP is boasting about their role in crafting it:

Many of the changes to the insurance system now under discussion are the ones that have been advocated this year by the insurance companies themselves, said Karen M. Ignagni, the chief executive of America's Health Insurance Plans, the industry trade group. "The industry has been the leader in creating the proposals everyone is about to endorse," she said.

No wonder insurance company stocks shot up after the President's speech.

But now we find, per John Aravosis, that Kent Conrad and Max Baucus are changing their bill to appease Joe Wilson:

"We really thought we'd resolved this question of people who are here illegally, but as we reflected on the President's speech last night we wanted to go back and drill down again," said Senator Kent Conrad, one of the Democrats in the talks after a meeting Thursday morning. Baucus later that afternoon said the group would put in a proof of citizenship requirement to participate in the new health exchange — a move likely to inflame the left.

As John says, if Wilson's outburst turns out to be successful, it'll keep happening over and over again. And it will work every time.

If you want to stop this travesty from going forward -- and it's turning into a complete travesty -- ask these members of Congress from strong Democratic districts, all of whom have cosponsored Single Payer in the past and know better, why they aren't pledging to vote against any bill if it turns out to be nothing more than an insurance industry bailout. (link to numbers below)
............................................................................................................

This health care bill is a disaster in the making. This is NOT health care reform. It is health insurance reform for the BENEFIT OF THE HEALTH INSURANCE INDUSTRY.

Here is the link with the phone numbers of the people to call:

2. I have little use for any idiotic piece that starts with the claim that this is
all the doing of the evil Emanuel. He ain't the president. there is no evidence whatsoever that this is his healthcare reform plan.

3. SHAME on the unrecommenders. SHAME ON YOU

This post is about calling and fighting back against the insurance industry dictating the health care legislation.

It is about standing up and letting your voice be heard. I am so SICK of the core group of Obama fans that unrecommend posts for the sole reason that they refuse to acknowledge the reality of the legislation that Obama is promoting.

It is a SCAM. A handout to the health insurance industry and big pharm. This is NOT health care reform.

Watch this video

Listen to it. Listen to what has been going on. And, then, stop imitating the Bushbot and actually remember why the hell you elected Obama in the first place!

11. No, because there is a group of unrecommender who unite behind rating down

Any post on the board that challenges Obama.

There brilliant 'arguments' for doing so -

Pointing out unpleasant truthes about Obama is whining.

They are protecting Obama from the 'haters'.

We should accept anything their hero puts forth because it is HE who put it forth.

It is really sad to see so many on DU reduced to acting just like the Bush sheeple they used to hate because they are more vested
in protecting their illusion of a politician then the truth.

8. I think some people just want to close their eyes
and not see what is really going on

this is windfall profits for the insurance companies....you get what you settle for
I am not ready to settle for mandates, co-ops, no controls on the insurance industry...hey maybe we can change it so corporations aren't seen as individuals...that would solve lots of problems

10. no. all I'm saying is this bizarre belief that Emanuel is Obama's puppet master
dilutes the message. I have no use for a bill without an open public option.

15. Emmanual is a very powerful player on the chess board
and close to Obamma. to not see him that way is just being naive
This health bill is wrong...and if everyone just blindly compliments the President on what a great and inspiring speech he had (which he did)and not look at the content then you are following blindly.

These people bank on the fact that we won't pay attention to details.. I am a huge fan of the President...I love his family...no lie..no exaggeration. I worked very hard to get him elected..... And when he speaks, I want to listen.

But that doesn't change the situation.

What does this health bill do? It delivers approx 14 more million customers to the health industry. My kids who are now young men...will have to buy into a mandate. But there is no public option being offered that is strong enough to keep the health insurance industry competitive. So they will have to buy into something that will put them into a poverty situation. They barely can save now. I am furious over this. Obama stated that he would not do a mandate when he was running against mccain. People who do not have health insurance now...don't have it because they don't want it...they don't have it because they can not afford it. That is almost a direct quote!

I read somewhere (here or somewhere on the Liberal blogospheres) (I am stil looking for the article)that Emmanual made a deal with the bluedogs to get a bill through and it would keep the health industry money away from the rethugs for 2010 and 2012. If that is the case...the Dems are SCREWED. this health bill will fail..it will be a disaster. Rethugs win. If they change the bill...money goes to the rethugs...
Who is exactly running that monkey house?

17. There are at least a dozen others who are also close to Obama and
are equally influential. David Axelrod ring a bell? How about Valerie Jarrett?

No, everyone doesn't just blindly sing out paeans to Obama. Hyperbole much?

I agree that healthcare reform isn't true reform without an open and robust public option, and I fault Obama for being weak and ineffectual when it comes to leadership on this debate.

And sorry, but even assuming your tale about Emanuel is true- something I doubt- please remember that he wouldn't make any deal such as that without the stamp of approval from the president.

9. Go watch the video Cali -

Listen to it. If you actually care about health care reform above being a fan of a politician....

Go educate yourself, if you have the guts. Go and confront the reality of this piece of crap legislation instead of bashing those who call it what it is -

A big fat wet tongue kiss to the corporate insurance industry and big pharm.

12. deb dear, you seem to erroneously believe that I support a healthcare "reform" plan
that I've repeatedly said I don't support. Your repulsive arrogance that only you and people who agree with every word you utter are educated on any given subject, is typical of you.

14. Give me a break Cali - this post was about advocating against a corporate giveaway

It was a action alert to fight against the corporate handout.

Instead of recommending a post that called for actual activism to fight back against it and joining in on the activism, you jumped right on it because the linked article stated it was Rahm's neoliberal giveaway to the insurance company....

Okay, OBAMA'S neoliberal giveway to the insurance company.

Feel better?

And, please. I have thread upon thread in my journal with your posts defending Obama and bashing me for speaking out. So, you can drop the affronted victim act and stop pretending that your post was anything other then your typical bash the poster crap.

16. defending Obama from some of the disgusting (and locked) crap
you've posted, isn't agreeing with him. I've stated repeatedly that Obama's been weak and ineffective on healthcare reform.

And btw, no I don't see things is simple terms like you. I think the reasons behind Obama's failure are a lot more complex than his planning a big giveaway to the Insurance companies.

and do try and pay attention, debbie dear. I'm not for a moment defending him when it comes to healthcare. Not in this post or any other that I've posted. Do try and achieve at least a minimal level of reading comprehension, honey.
