Whatever you think of Maureen Dowd's snarkiness, she cuts to the chase in her September 13th column about the racism behind the summer of bizarre rolling protests against Barack Obama: white racists will not accept a "black boy" as their boss, particularly one who is smarter than they are.

Anyone who has regularly read BuzzFlash over nearly 10 years knows that this is a regular theme of ours: the South and whites who need blacks as scapegoats have never conceded the Civil War. Heck, they haven't even accepted the Civil Rights laws of the '60s.

3. I have been so depressed reading about yesterday's tea party

I grew up in Alabama and the tea parties remind me of the rallies George Wallace held. I still remember Wallace saying that if a pointy-headed liberal lay down in front of his car, Wallace would run over him. The crowd screamed with approval.

My problem is that I should go back to visit my elderly mother but those memories are paralyzing me. I just don't want to go home at this time. But I feel guilty about not traveling to see my mother. (She is not physically capable of leaving the nursing home to come to see me.)
