NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- Officials at a Volusia County elementary school have a lot of questions to answer after police arrested a sexual predator who had been roaming the school's campus for two days. Kareen McNeal was arrested Thursday night and is being held without bond.
When police showed up at McNeal's home on North Dixie Freeway they found him and a BB gun that resembled a real, full-sized semi-automatic pistol.
An alert parent called police after seeing McNeal at Chisholm Elementary in New Smyrna Beach on Wednesday and Thursday. That parent found McNeal listed on the state's sexual predator registry.
Many parents whose children attend Chisholm Elementary are trying to figure out how the 28-year-old McNeal was able to get onto the school campus with a BB gun.
"Really? I didn't know anything about that," one parent said.
Police say alert parents tipped them off about the McNeal after they had seen him roaming the halls and claiming to be a drug enforcement agent. Investigators say a concerned parent checked the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) website and, sure enough, the man on campus was actually a sexual predator.
