Poll question: What does today's Right Wing like most about England?
Right Wing Anglophiles

Defenders of Congressman Joe Wilson invariably invoke the British Parliament in order to defend his unprecedented behavior, or more to the point, misbehavior, during President Obama's recent address to a joint-session of Congress.

Personally, I think he was just getting riled up by the real-time commentary streaming from Eric Cantor's Twitter page, but I humbly confess that I have no supporting evidence to back up this theory.

That being said, we're dealing with the GOP of 2009, not 1859, so what do little things like facts or respect for the black man at the front of the room matter anyway?

3. If they are invoking the British Parliament about that, they should think again
Saying an MP lies would be 'unparliamentary language', and unless you withdrew it and apologised, you'd get thrown out for a few days.

Unparliamentary language is language that breaks the rules of politeness in the House of Commons Chamber. Part of the Speaker's role is to ensure that MPs do not use insulting or rude language and do not accuse each other of lying, being drunk or misrepresent each other's words. Words to which objection has been taken by the Speaker over the years include blackguard, coward, git, guttersnipe, hooligan, rat, swine, stoolpigeon and traitor. The Speaker will direct an MP who has used unparliamentary language to withdraw it. Refusal to withdraw a comment might lead to an MP being disciplined. MPs sometimes use considerable ingenuity to get around the rules; for example Winston Churchill famously used the phrase "terminological inexactitude" to mean "lie".

So if they're claiming he was being British about it, then I'll say the Eiffel Tower, since it's the option showing them to be the dumbest.

7. Good Queen Victoria, probably.
BTW, Joe Wilson should be told that if he'd used the word 'lie' in the British Parliament, the Speaker would have tossed him out of the room pronto.
