Rep. Steve King DEFENDS Joe Wilson Support For The CONFEDERATE FLAG
Rep. Steve King (R-IA) has been circulating a letter to his House Republican colleagues, asking them to sign onto a petition in defense of Rep. Joe “You Lie!” Wilson (R-SC). Over on the Wonk Room, Andrea Nill notes that King is going so far in his defense of Wilson that he’s defending the South Carolina congressman’s vote in favor of keeping the Confederate flag waving above the state capitol. Here’s what King said this morning on Fox News:

is an officer and a gentleman and everyone who knows him knows that. … Being a son of the South puts you in a different position when it comes to the Confederate flag. It means something entirely different to the people who have ancestors who fought in the Civil War on the south side of the Mason-Dixon line.

As a state legislator, Wilson was “one of only seven Republicans to go against their own party and vote to keep the Dixie Rebel flag flying over the South Carolina capitol.” Wilson has also been a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, described as a “source of increasingly virulent pro-Confederate, radical right propaganda.”

6. This is why Glenn Beck and the rest like 'STOOPID' people
The Confederate flag is, essentially, the Swastika of the South's Civil War/Slave Movement. Even my southern relatives feel that way.

7. In a nutshell, I believe that is what all these disguised protests are really all about. Its an
expression of their non-acceptance and acknowledgment of the first black president in history. I recall watching Cheney in his wheelchair being wheeled to Obama's inauguration. I thought to myself at that moment that Cheney cooked up that wheelchair excuse because he didn't want to STAND WITNESS & ACKNOWLEDGE Obama being sworn in as the 44th President. His reasons for being in a wheelchair might be legitimate but I still remain convinced that Cheney's hatred for Obama is deep seeded enough to orchestrate such theatre.

8. S. Carolina - Home of Racism and Poverty
Joe Wilson (R-SC) makes me sad. And his home state, that flew the confederate battle flag over its capitol until 2000, makes me sad. Simply put, South Carolina by all accounts still seems to be one of the leading US places for racism, poverty, and ignorance. The NAACP has been boycotting the state for years. Now is the time for the rest of the US and world to act. Censure and Boycott South Carolina.

SOUTH CAROLINA: LAND OF PAULA DEAN AND POVERTY
In case you think that South Carolina is known for its pretty coastal beaches and Paula Dean, let me give you some background:

•South Carolina was the 1st state to secede from the Union during the Civil War. Its troops fired on Fort Sumter, beginning a conflict that would ultimately cause the death of 700,000 Americans.
•Until 2000, South Carolina STILL flew the confederate battle flag over its capitol.
•South Carolina served as a cornerstone of the slave trade. In fact, Continental Congress participant Edward Rutledge from SC was the primary force behind the successful effort to have wording removed from the Declaration of Independence that condemned slavery and the slave trade.
•Jim Crowe laws were especially severe in SC
•Racism is alive and well in South Carolina. In June 2009, GOP operative Mike Green posted a racist joke about President Obama on his Twitter account. He admitted to doing this and then deleted it some time later: "Just heard Obama is going to impose a 40% tax on aspirin because it is white and it works." http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/06/south-carolina-gop-operative-doesnt-deny-racist-tweet-against-obama.php
•More Racism: In May 2008 a black female reporter in SC was standing on the street covering a crime story when she was attacked by an entire white family, yelling racial slurs. The reporter, Charmayne Brown was thrown to the ground, punched, and it appears (from the video that is available online) strangled. The entire attack was caught on tape by another (white) TV crew on the scene - who did NOTHING to help Ms. Brown. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/03/13/national/main3933895.shtml
•POVERTY, POVERTY, POVERTY: With a poverty rate of 15.0%, South Carolina has the 9th highest poverty rate in the United States.
•There is more. Just google South Carolina and any word - like poverty, racism, crime, statistics, and you’ll find a wealth of information on the appalling conditions in this state.

BOYCOTT SOUTH CAROLINA
The NAACP has been boycotting South Carolina for years. Now it is time for everyone to join and support this effort. There are many things you can do:

•Don’t travel to South Carolina. If you can’t avoid driving through the state or flying through one of their airports, then don’t buy food or gas. And, don’t stay in one of their hotels.
•If you are in a position to book conferences DO NOT book them in South Carolina. In fact, following the recent outburst from Joe Wilson, the National Newspaper Publishing Association cancelled their annual conference to be held in South Carolina.
•Stop buying Nestle products, such as Lean Cuisine and Stouffers. Both products are made in South Carolina.
•Don’t buy Kimberly Clark products. They’re made in SC. Products include: Cotonelle, Depends, Goodnight, Huggies, Kleenex, Kotex, Little Swimmers, Poise, Pull-Ups, Scott Tissue Products, and Viva.
•If you are redecorating, don’t buy Mohawk carpets or Andersen Hardwood Floors. Both are made in South Carolina.
•Don’t watch the new TV show Parks and Recreation on TV. One of the actors, Aziz Ansari is from South Carolina.
•Avoid Sex and the City reruns. Kristin Davis was raised and attended college in South Carolina.
•Don’t watch Fox News (shouldn’t be too hard!) Ainsley Hayden Earhardt, a correspondent, is from SC.
•Boycott the following products: Kimberly Clark, Nestle, BMW, American LaFrance, Folbot Folding Kayaks, Honda, Bridgestone Firestone, Caterpillar, Honeywell, Michelin, Scout Boats, BASF, BP Chemical , DuPont, Eastman Chemical, Alcoa, Anderson Hardwood Floors, Bose (radios), GE, and Mohawk Carpet among others.

We don't need to celebrate that frakking flag.

To quote Ben Stiller, "You guys get Nascar and the Allman Brothers."

14. Only reasonable and compassionate people choose to agree with your position.
The Sons of the South flag patriots will continue to justify & pass on their branded hatred to the next generation so that they may continue to carry on the torch of racism & hate.
