This kind of synergistic cross-brand marketing warms my heart.

I salute the spirit of America, which ceases not to find a way up towards which it might bubble.

1. Shakey's is still around?
Wow! I didn't know they were still out there. Used to go to one out in Anchorage.

2. I knew them in my indiscretionary youth, in a distant land, but
they've got a website, so they've still got it going on, to some degree.

6. Shakey's had the weirdest, funkiest "sausage" ever.
Or maybe it was just ground beef.

It tasted funky, whatever it was.

4. Shakeys was a staple of my childhood. Then when I was stationed in Japan, I went to one there.
They put fish and corn on the pizza. Not quite the same but it grew on me.

7. Okay:
That was an awesome recollection.

May I add this one: in Kyoto, I came across a Taco Bell, much to my (1985) delight, as I was starving for some familiar, western food.

Turned out, they'd appropriated the logo for Taco Bell, but really they meant "tako", Japanese for octopus. All the food was octopus-related.

I remember eating at a Shakey's in Osaka, too.

9. OMG! You could get squid on Shakey's Pizza in Japan too.
Where there Denny's in Kyoto? Because the ones I went to on the Kanto Plain (Tokyo-Yokohama-Yokusuka) featured linen napkins and waiters in bow ties. They served things like lamb with aspic, I swear to god, but outside was the same familiar Denny's marquee. My favorite part of my experience in Japan was witnessing their interpretation of US culture. They just took the nominal parts and improvised the rest.

8. It's the old AFL uniforms
In honor of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the now-defunct AFL (which makes up a large percentage of current AFC teams), the two Monday night games were between old AFL rivals. So even the refs got into the act by wearing retro uniforms from 1960.

10. Great comment, bleev!
Watch Keith Olbermann steal it from you for next Sunday's Football Night show when he's wrapping up the Monday highlights with Dan Patrick.
